Thanks @Bit of hope. You provided the impetus to dig deeper. The redwoods are near and dear to my heart...I used to live in southern Humboldt. Sadly, during the long fight, the greedy company decimated hillsides...even ones visible from Highway 101.

I think Lorie's maiden name might be Hilston, so Lorie Lynn Hilston, born in Ohio, but I'm not totally sure. Also interesting: a clipping with her name, from the Daily Report Publication 30 Sep 1970 Ontario, California. Sadly I don't have access to it all.

I think Lorie's maiden name might be Hilston, so Lorie Lynn Hilston, born in Ohio, but I'm not totally sure. Also interesting: a clipping with her name, from the Daily Report Publication 30 Sep 1970 Ontario, California. Sadly I don't have access to it all.

In this paper there is a picture of a Lorie Pope...are there people with an Ancestry account who can dig this paper clipping up. Then we can eventually check if this named woman is "our" Lorie.....

This is what I could abstract without taking a trial on the paper.

Lorie Pope of West JBvina? will be guest luncheon medyt the Upland ChrisUn Fellowship being held at 11:15 a.m. Thursday in the Upland Inn, Upland. Mrs. Pope is an interior decorator and received her education at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Music will be provided by students of. the Christian High School, Ontario, led by Arthur Ortiz. Gladys Chamiee of Clare-mont also will speak.

If the speaking lady is "our" Lorie she would have been 18 at the time, it's possible, but I don't know...In 1970 there were a couple of victims at the Kent State University shooting, (Kent State-bloedbad - Wikipedia) she must have graduated in approx. that year. Possible this is just a third Lorie Pope. The other Lorie Pope (with maiden name Hilston) had also a connection with Ohio (and there are a couple of people with Hilston surname connected to Lindsborg, McPherson, Kansas) but she was born in 1967, it's impossible that this is the speaking woman in Upland (4 years old). It's getting a bit complicated. I hope you can make sense of it.

She is described as standing 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds, with blue eyes and red hair. She was 44 at the time of her disappearance, Walters-Pope would now be 66.

She remains classified as an "at-risk missing person and/or a voluntary missing person," according to the sheriff's office.

Hi Bit of hope, somehow I missed looking this up last year. Found this obit from her mother * I think

Dorothy J. Walters, 83, of McPherson passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She had worked as a clerk for the McPherson Co-op Credit Union, as a library assistant for U.S.D. 418, and was a quilter extraordinaire.

She was born on October 18, 1929, the daughter of John D. and Edna C.(Ross) Brehm in Culbertson, NE. She graduated from Wichita North High School in 1948. On June 29, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ralph C. Walters in Wichita, KS. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2007.

Dorothy was a member of First Christian Church, Oriental Chapter #58-Order of the Eastern Star, TOPS Club, and Domestic Dames FCE.

Survivors include: son, John Walters and fiancé, Sue Bailey, of McPherson, KS; daughter, Lorie Pope of Oregon; granddaughter, Katie Pope of Oregon; and brother, Don Brehm and wife, Emmy, of Sarasota, FL.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 12, 2013, at First Christian Church, McPherson with Rev. Lynn Scott officiating. Burial will follow at the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Memorial donations may be given to First Christian Church or Hospice of Reno County-Hospice House in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Sorry Starr, who's husband? If Walters is Lorie's maiden name, she must have been married to "a" White and "a" Pope. She was reported missing by her ex-husband. I wonder which one?

Interesting find....just months apart from divorce and missing date....maybe she went even missing before the known date...address unknown....hmmmm. Makes me think Mr. Pope (instead of Mr. White) called it in.
