Identified! CA - Los Angeles Co., Remains in shallow grave, Aug'15 - Maria Delrefugio Chavez

I read this in one of the news articles. How sad. I would think if LE received a tip and went out there specifically to look for the remains of the missing person that they would have told the family that they had a lead.

Unless they thought someone from the family was involved?

I had not seen that, only that yesterday it did seem like the male found in a different case was mixed up with the person in this case and quickly retracted.

But just now, catching up, I clicked on dotr's link here: http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/La-Puente-Death-Investigation-320900061.html

And note the intro banner on the 2nd video down says "Excavation Remains of Missing Woman to Resume Friday"
So that's been there a couple days?

In the second video in the post, a mother and son whose sister/ daughter,( whose name i cannot quite make out ), are speculating that the remains are of their loved one, although apparently they were told that was not the case.

@ 1:10 video # 2.

The name is actually in the article. I'm not seeing her name on google as missing.
Human Skull and Additional Human Remains Found in Valinda Backyard
Coroner's arrived at the home early Thursday after receiving information about a 2009 cold case.
By Jonathan Lloyd and Patrick Healy
Late in the day, word of the search brought members of another San Gabriel Valley family who have not seen a loved one since 2008 to the house. The mother and brother of Liliana Rangel said the closeness in time of disappearance raised their concerns. Lewandowski said detectives would speak with them.

If remains are found in the backyard, the case will become a homicide, said Lewandowski, and that is why authorities do not want to release the name of the missing person until they have confirmation.

Surprised that no announcement has been made concerning the identity of the remains found and no updates that i can see so far..
Wonder what the neighbours are thinking and if the family who live there are totally creeped out? imo.

Human remains found in SGV yard ID’d; but no names released yet

Nicole Nishida of the sheriff’s department said detectives were planning to conduct a news conference Tuesday, when they will reveal the identity of the person whose remains were found, along with the identity of a “suspect” in the case. She said she could not confirm that the remains were those of the person reported missing in 2009.

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported on its website that authorities had identified the remains as those of a woman who went missing in 2009. Sheriff’s Homicide Detective Steve Blagg told the newspaper no arrests had been made.

Tuesday we should know.

Anyone have guesses?

I'm not convinced the victim is female. The family of Liliana Rangel was supposedly told by a detective that the remains are not Liliana. The gender on the video banner could be a media mistake since that video was all about Liliana.

If LE is also going to announce the identity of a "suspect," I wonder if that "suspect" is already in custody.

:bump:
Press conference is supposed to be today. I haven't seen a time set. I won't be around to post updates if it is a morning presser so hope those that can, will.

“Detectives will identify the victim whose remains were recovered, identify the suspect in this case, and request the public’s assistance in locating the suspect,” Deputy Don Walker said."

"Chavez, a single mother of a young daughter, was last seen around 8:45 p.m. May 7, 2009, while leaving her job at the East LA Indoor Swapmeet in the 4700 block of Whittier Boulevard, according to the Charley Project website that profiles cold-case missing-person cases. She sent a text message to a friend later that night saying she was in trouble and might be in danger, according to the website. A friend reported her missing that night.

Her car, a 1998 Honda Accord, was found several days later in the 17000 block of Pacific Coast Highway near Sunset Boulevard.

Sheriff’s detectives today identified a suspect in her disappearance as Pablo Pinto Mata, who remains at large".

Could this sex assault suspect, a priest, be the same suspect in this case?

Look at the address of Maria's work, and the address of where he did the rituals! Creepy....must be the same guy.

Maria was apparently a devoted single mother to a young daughter, so probably... imo.
yes..

http://laist.com/2015/08/25/human_remains_cold_case.php

"Investigators have identified the human remains found in the backyard of a family's San Gabriel Valley home as a woman who went missing in 2009. They also announced a suspect this morning—a Santeria priest who also disappeared after he was accused of raping a teenage girl.

Pablo Pinto Maria, 46, has been on the lam since 2014, when police were investigating allegations that he raped a 16-year-old girl while performing a healing ritual on her".

"Mata may be using a false name, possibly Juan Diego or El Padrino, KTLA reports. He is described as a 46-year-old Hispanic man, about 5'5" and 175 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information should call homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500."

Looks like him. To the right of your link is an article about her

Valinda remains Id'd as Maria DelRefugio Chavez, El Monte woman missing for years

Pablo Pinto Mata is the prime suspect in the death of Maria DelRefugio Chavez, whose remains were found in the back yard of a Valinda home on Elsberry Avenue in August, 2015.

However, they do not know the whereabouts of Mata, who is reportedly widely known as a Santeria spiritualist.
