Mack Ray Edwards in 1970 voluntarily walked in to a police station and confessed to having kidnapped three young girls. Two had already escaped from him and the third was found alive where Edwards told police to look for her.
Prior to his surrender Edwards had not been considered a suspect in any kidnappings, rapes, or murders. But he began confessing to several such crimes. He was connected to several, although not all victims were located or recovered.
Edwards claimed to have murdered 18 persons, some he named or were connected to known cases. Others remain unknown or unconnected.
Convicted of three murders and sentenced to death, Edwards attempted suicide three times, being successful finally in his third attempt.
