I wish LE could at least tell us the weapon they think was used in the tent killing.

The reason we were talking about a shotgun is possible with a slug is the lady that was previously shot at in her car was a definite shotgun with a slug. There are pictures of the slug she found that ended up in her car.

We dont know yet for sure what was used in the tent killing but since 2 holes in the tent I was thinking a slug is possible in that shooting.

Remember a scope can be mounted on a shotgun too and can make it more accurate than people think.

Im kind of thinking he may have been shooting at the tent and the victim unfortunately may have sat up and got hit.
Remember it was stated that he got hit in torso which is upper body. So it is not like a head shot where more accuracy would be needed for a head shot.

This case is scary as I think too many similar incidents which makes me lean to the same shooter.

Two shots in same tent indicates he was aiming in that direction. A free willy random shooter I doubt would hit the tent twice.

I agree a long range rifle with a scope is possible too. Wish LE would give more info on what gun they think did the tent shooting.

All JMO of course.
Great post! This is sounding like a serial shooter aiming at tent or object, but hits a victim. The tent looks like the outdate REI Co-Op Kingdom 6 or 8 which has a divider in center to make "2-room." Victim could have sat up or even stood up after hearing a first shot and immediately unzip or untie if there was a center divider in tent to check on children. 2nd shot to head (head brushing top of tent if victim stood up to get to "2nd room" or react to a first shot to tent/noice. "Shots fired" call to LE doesn't specify time in between shots. 911 caller could have initially made "shots fired" call and then made a 2nd call to report victim.

Thank you. I realize that people are curious and there are some things about this which make complete sense to me (because although in a different field from TB's wife, I am also a physician mom) but I suppose may plant seeds of doubt regarding Dr. Wu's character.

Let me assure my websleuth friends that:
-Many female physicians especially those who practiced and built a career under our maiden name do not change our name with marriage (full disclosure: my husband and I are both physicians--we have different last names) yet remain completely committed and faithful to our spouses and marriages.
-Dads can (and IMO, should) parent! My husband is not a camper but he has taken our children to park, playground, etc while I have been busy at the hospital running codes. I do similar things when he works but it doesn't seem out of the norm to society at large.
-Board exams are kind of a big deal. I think it is incredibly awesome that TB planned to take the kids camping the night before his wife's MFM (Ob Gyn subspecialty) boards. Obviously I'm sure in retrospect she wishes she hadn't let him but who would imagine what would happen.
-Since Dr. Wu just finished up her fellowship this would be a very reasonable time for the family to be relocating for her first MFM attending position. I wouldn't look askance at the timing of any of this other than I can't imagine what she and her children are going through right now and not that there would be any good time for her husband to be senselessly killed but I suppose this happening on top of job change and relocation challenges just makes it all even harder. Of course all of the annoyances and hurdles of moving, obtaining privileges at new hospitals etc probably no longer even register on her radar as she deals with this.

Thank you for your post. Was the exam the oral part of board certified? I did not realize that the exam process for OBGYN takes so many years and has written and oral exam. My heart goes out to the victim's spouse and children.

I’ll put the satellite view with the markups back in. It’s back a few pages but this may help spatially with the area.

Tapia Park is the green marker that’s labeled. The Juvenile Center is circled in blue, the camp ground area is circled in green. There is a pull off on the road that is circled in red that I thought may be easy to park and get access to the park. The yellow is the Hindu temple which also appears to have a large parking lot. My husband swears he sees a treed valley along side the mountain that leads from the Juvenille Camp to the camp ground that provides easy cover.

There is also a post up thread with a map of shootings in the area of the cars. (I’m horrible with names, sorry).

(Please tell Mr.Tbone thanks for his input...I was always love it when the DH's weigh in!)

Maternal Fetal Medicine is a subspecialty of OB. She is already board certified in OB-Gyn (that is a requirement to take the subspecialty board exam)

Sorry that should have been "full time teachers" not "staff". I would like to know how many other staff, however. Guards, counselors, cooks etc?
That’s still horrendous, though, and the instruction can’t be very advanced, since each teacher would have to cover a lot of subjects. Isn’t it a private school? You’d expect a gigantic faculty roster.
Is it a boarding school?
It may be that this school is for young men who are having trouble finishing high school? Partying too much when they’re home?

This school isn’t researchable, correct? No active website? That seems very strange to me. They’re getting their students only by word of mouth and they’re intentionally cut off.

Later: see my next post for a current description of that school.

The family of an former Edison High School valedictorian who was shot to death while camping with his daughters spoke out this week about his shocking death.
Family heartbroken over 'senseless act' that killed Edison grad camping with daughters

His death was a devastating loss on so many levels for his family, the community and society in general. Not only are Valedictorians an academic title of success but they are usually gifted, innovative, creative thinkers, ingenious and inspirational. My son was a valedictorian- my heart goes out to this family in their tremendous loss.

"We would see the family at many of the University Synagogue events," Rachlis said, "and Tristan was such a warm human being with this tremendous smile. You would see his little girls on stage, performing or singing. And he was riveted to them, adored them, looking at them with a big smile."

"You could see those daughters were the loves of his life, along with his wife," Rachlis added.

I'm struggling to see this on my phone, when I pause the video it goes dark.

I've tried taking a screenshot shot. I can see one hole with a green stick coming out of it (I think), where is the other one?

[The quality of my screenshot isn't great and I may not have caught the right moment.]

I find it frustrating that the Sheriff's department appears to have missed the head wound. I'm thinking blood from the head wound ran down and soaked Tristan's shirt. And the Sheriff's deputies or park police (or both) thought the bleeding was from his chest/upper torso. I'm assuming Tristan was wearing a shirt because if he had been bare chested it should have been that much more obvious.

I read the ME's announcement before it was pulled (sorry, I didn't think to take a screen shot & post it). It was brief, essentially a list.
The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.
I don't remember the exact wording, but on the list there was a line for other wounds that could have contributed to death (or similar wording), and in the space next to it was none, or no, or similar.
Yes, he could have also been shot (or maybe grazed) in the upper torso/chest, but it would have been a more minor injury.

The head wound appears to have been missed, but hopefully not by the detectives/investigators before the body was taken away.
If the head wound was not obvious at the time of discovery, I think that can rule out a number of weapons. Especially a shotgun.

I am curious..........
A gun shot in the distance would not prompt me to call 911.
A gun shot in the distance would not prompt me to check the well being of those in tents near me.
A gun shot in the distance would not have woken my 2 and four year old.
Did first responders go tent to tent?
I presume the BIL was able to summon help for TR specifically. What is it about the shot from a distance that made him check on TR?

*Maybe the noise was enough to roust a kiddo enough to want snuggles? No snuggles could have lead to fussing/crying?

I keep thinking I see holes all over the tent, I'm not sure if some of them might be ventilation holes. I do see the green stick which could be a trajectory rod I suppose. And then just below that and a bit to the left I see a hole that looks a bit red, but then I remind myself it's not a wound (!) so it wouldn't have blood on the hole. One at the top of the entrance, some possibly lower down...idk

I only see the one hole. I'm not sure where to look.

I think I'll have to wait till I get home and have a proper look.

'Trajectory rod' is exactly what I was thinking of, but my mind went blank and all I could of was 'green stick'.

"Green stick" works too! :)

I’m with you on this! I don’t think the BIL is involved but I’m so curious what led him to the tent. Maybe one of the girls yelled or TB made a sound after being shot?

Yes, I'm not sure how effective a rod would be on a hole through fabric, like you could poke it through at any angle and it wouldn't tell you the direction the bullet came from. Unless it was a broken tent rod that had burst through the tent?

This is where I see holes but maybe I am wrong.
