Whether the other shootings are linked to TB's death or not, I hope they continue to investigate because it seems pretty clear somebody is out there...

My guess of where I see one hole is in the first green section at the back of it where the rib vein is running there appears to be a hole that is going into the tent.

Its near where the green area meets the grey area at the back part of that first green section and below the reddish looking sticker thing which is right where the green meets the grey along the rib vein.

There appears to be a bullet shaped hole going into the tent which would mean the shot came from that direction. If that is one of the holes.

https://www.websleuths.com/forums/attachments/tent-holes-jpg.137135/

For ease of vocabulary, the grey area is known as the "fly". It is a waterproof cover for the whole tent; it protects any mesh areas, un-waterproofed areas (so the tent can breathe and keep your breath from soaking you during the night), and goes down almost to the ground, keeping rain splash from getting into the tent even in a bad storm.

This camper has that fly at full coverage and full privacy. This might be relevant, or maybe not.

Here are photos of the current version of that tent with and without the fly, so you can get a picture of how the tent works. Also, how it gets pitched. The bullet hole would have had to go through 2 layers of fabric at bullet entrance and exit.

Staff presence at the camp in January could make sense if there was a need to do maintenance prior to the following summer. But it wouldn't make sense for early November 2016. Unless this person also happens to live in the general area.

Replying to my own post....

http://campmtcrags.com/employment-opportunities
From the camp web site:
"Part-Time Employment Opportunities

During our rental season camp welcomes a variety of groups to use our facilities for their various retreats, conferences and events. In order to serve these groups we are currently hiring part-time kitchen/dinning room staff, maintenance workers, housekeepers and lifeguards to assist us in providing excellent customer service to our guests."

So if the person worked during the rental season, in addition to the summer camp, it could explain their presence in January 2017 and November 2016.

Another thing. I used to drive this route around 5:30am. While it wasn't busy, there were other cars on the road. I'd guess maybe a rate of 50-100 cars in a 30 minute period. While 4:45 would have been a lot fewer, somebody had to see something.

They're smart to hand out fliers during rush hour. It's likely that someone returning home may have taken the same route to go to work at that time of the morning.

Campground seniors (especially those in RV's) are often awake and mobile during this time. Many times, they pack up and leave at 6 am or before. It would be interesting if someone was driving around the loop at that time.

However, I would add that that section of the loop is on the way in, not the way out.

Wow. Can we fill in any more blanks about these shootings?

1. 11-3-16 - The shooting of the wildlife biologist in Tapia Park in a hammock while sleeping 200 yards from Malibu Canyon Road. Shotgun blast to the face. Pellets. Hit his arm that was over his head. Fired at close range. STATE PARK JURIS.
2. 11-9-16 ?? STATE PARK. JURIS.
3. 1-7-17 - Young woman and her boyfriend sleeping in a car at the Malibu Creek Park. Heard gun shot @ 5:00 a.m. Found a slug in the car the next morning. Fired form 20 feet away. Would have hit her if it was n inch higher. Cops probe two MORE shootings at a Malibu park | Daily Mail Online STATE PARK JURIS.
4. 6-6-17 - Shooting reported in the area. I'm not sure what, when, where. SHERIFF JURIS.
5. 7-22-17 - White car shown on The Local Malibu Facebook Page. Shot at between 5:30am to 6:00am (shotgun shot) SHERIFF JURIS.
6. 7-30-17 - ?? STATE PARK JURIS.
7. 6-18-18 - Shots fired at a Tesla on Malibu canyon Road. Bullet hit car. No one injured. There were five shootings at and near a Malibu park over two years. Why didn't authorities alert the public until father was killed? SHERIFF JURIS.
8. 6-22-18 @ 4:45 a.m. TB. Malibu Creek Park. Shot while inside the tent. Shot to the head. Possible two gun shot holes to tent. STATE PARK JURIS.

Good summary. I believe the shooting on the 22nd of July would have been the white car shown on the Local Malibu Facebook Page that was going to the surf contest that day. (Source: The Local Malibu ) Shooting happened at 5:30-6:00am according to the description next to the picture. One of the commenters mentioned they saw the car at the competition and that the driver drove by that park that day.

LE stated in one article that they won't give out more detail as they are investigating:

Fatal Shooting Not Linked To Other Malibu Park Crimes: Officials

Detectives have not revealed the exact time of the shooting, but were summoned to the campground at 4:44 a.m. June 22, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"Homicide detectives are advising at this time there is no evidence to suggest the past shootings are related to the June 22, 2018, homicide," the sheriff's department said Friday in a statement. "However, due to the fact that the motive is unknown, a link between the past shootings and the murder will be explored as part of the homicide investigation.

Hmm...
-No motive is known.
-LE is not revealing the exact time of shooting.
-LE were summoned to the campground at 4:44 am.

1. Hunting /shooting accident- It may be counter intuitive but the reality is its actually really hard to hit a person even when your trying let alone by accident. It would be like 1 rain drop falling out of the sky at the park and it hit him. Almost zero probability.

2. Suicide- Almost zero probability.

3. Accident- shot himself- Almost zero probability.

4. Some nefarious organization assassinated him- the conspiracy theory. This can go to the bottom of the probability list for now as well.

5. <modsnip> The whole 🤬🤬🤬 thing hit me funny at first too. Both DRs so why? It was started by a family member. So probably thinking to herself I cant help. What can I do? IMO that's plausible.

6. Escalation of a previous altercation: Getting a little warmer maybe. Although I think we'd have a suspect. So a guy getting drunk/being loud maybe profanities. T asks/tells them to shut up. Guy acts or waits/broods then acts later in the night

7. Thrill killer: this is probably where we are at. So important to know what the firearm was.

Shotgun might explain the ambiguity about the location of the fatal wound. If it was shot rather than a slug, and he took the brunt of the shot in the upper torso, it would have been a lot easier to overlook a single pellet to the head.

The dates of the various shootings makes me think it might be a person home from college. They're all summer, except for one in January and that could have been winter break.

I don't know much about guns and ammunition. Could a single pellet really pierce the skull and cause a large brain injury that would cause death?

FATAL SHOOTING NOT LINKED TO OTHER MALIBU PARK CRIMES.

Bolded for clarity. Hope we can move forward with this in mind. They must know something major if they're so sure it's not linked.
I agree. They know something major. And they are not revealing much at all.
We don't even know what type of weapon was used that killed TB.

Depends on the size of pellets and where it entered the head.

It's not the most likely thing, I agree--but there's a lot about this case that seems unusual :p

I think it says they were called at 4:44 a.m.. Not arrived?

I think one major thing they know is that they may have goofed badly in the first (golden) hours.

I cant go in depth but here's your start. Also it is a bit of a misconception on how big the spread is especially at close quarters. The groupings are a little tighter then one would think. Unless he had a short barrel gun with bird shot. Below in order of "spread".

1. Bird shot: lots of pellets- similar to BBs but traveling at great velo. Greater spread.
2. Buck shot larger like marbles. 9 in a common oo buck
3. Slug: 1 projectile ~70 caliber

You may be right. English isn't my native language.
Corrected my previous post.

No. That is misleading, a news agency headline and not an official LE report.

I knew people would flip out over that headline.

It is true that the fatal shooting has not been linked to the 7 other area shootings.

It is also true that it has NOT been ruled out.

It is also true that while LE has stated they've found no evidence linking the homicide to the other shootings, they are investigating the shootings in relation to the homicide. That's not a headline, that's an actual, official LE statement.

Most interesting, they are refusing to give out any more details about all these incidents except the dates. Doesn't sound like they are dismissing a connection. Not at all.

Now that they are saying (with what appears to be some certainty) "not linked" maybe we are looking at an isolated incident that escalated.

I'm retracting above. Thought it was an official statement.

Yes, exactly, the headline is clickbait.

First paragraph of their article states truth:

There is no evidence linking last Friday's fatal shooting of a father camping with his young daughters at Malibu Creek State Park with earlier shootings in the area, Sheriff's Homicide detectives said Friday – but a possible link has not been ruled out.

Did you happen to ever notice someone out running/jogging ?
