Mendocino County woman, 76, missing since Friday

Missing Piercy resident Margit Pritchard, 76, hasn’t been seen since Friday afternoon and Mendocino County sheriff’s officials Monday were seeking help in finding her.

Searchers have been combing the rural area along the Eel River’s south fork since Saturday.

The woman was last seen about 4:30 p.m. near the 1300 block of Pepperwood Springs Road in Piercy, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Pritchard is about 5‑feet tall and weighs 110 pounds, has gray hair and blue eyes. She may be suffering from dementia‑like symptoms and could be confused, officials said. She also is an avid walker.

Piercy, north of Leggett, is near Richardson Grove State Park and Garberville. Officials asked anyone with information to contact sheriff’s dispatchers at 707‑463‑4086.

Prichard was last seen on Friday afternoon near the 1300 of Pepperwood Springs Road in Piercy.
Authorities say she may suffer from dementia like symptoms, and may be confused.

“We’ve deployed our Sheriff’s Office ATVs to search for her. This is a rural area, as much of Humboldt and Mendocino counties are. They are also going door to door to collect information. She is known to walk to Benbow, which is far. She is in shape, and known to walk so she could be anywhere in the surrounding area,” said Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Samantha Karges.
Prichard is just over five feet tall, about 110 pounds, and has gray hair and blue eyes.

Details of Disappearance
Prichard was last seen in the garden at her residence in the 1300 block of Pepperwood Springs Road in Piercy, California at 1:00 p.m. on May 18, 2018. Her husband realized she was missing at 4:30 p.m. and searched their property for her, then enlisted neighbors to help look around in the local area before calling the police. She left her purse and phone behind and has never been heard from again.

At the time of her disappearance, Prichard was very fit for her age and could walk long distances. She had disappeared about three months earlier and traveled seven miles on foot before she was located. After her May 2018 disappearance, an extensive search turned up no sign of her.

Prichard used to live on Bethel Island in the East Bay area of California, and may try to return there. Her case remains unsolved.
