Good news tho is it did not seem all that crowded - it was very dark- in what I could make out I saw 5 people.

Please forgive me if this has been asked and answered but why the different names for the victims? Seems like some have a name and then another name in parentheses. I do not understand this.

A lot of people in the festival community (Burning Man, Symbiosis, etc) go by nicknames, or at least they did back when I was in that scene. I can't really speak for all of them, but I'm guessing it's the same there in Oakland. It could also have to do with not wanting to use their real name on Facebook, so they have created a fake name that Facebook won't catch on to.

My sense of this was (after we found out CPS took his kids and he just got them back) I am sure that "daddy" did not get them a room cause of the concert .

I think that was a requirement of CPS - something akin to if your kids are found living in that place again we will began permanent removal of custody proceedings

Does CPS have a duty to report unsafe living conditions like that to other city officials?

I'm glad those kids were removed from an unsafe environment, but it's looking like multiple balls were dropped here by more than one agency...

She says she had a falling out with the couple after alerting Child Protective Services as well as Allison's parents that the children were living in unsafe conditions. The kids were removed for six months, as the Chron reports, in early 2015, sent to live with their grandparents in Southern California, but returned by July 2015 and had been continuing to live there ever since.

[/FONT]I am sorry I am getting uneasy feelings with this - living there since 2015 and the family is staying in a local hotel the night the building burns to the ground.

If, for that long neither parent cared that their children lived in that environ since 2015 why on Friday were his wife and kids in a hotel??

It will be interesting to see about insurance?

The interview that I posted earlier led me to believe that this is not an uncommon type of situation in this region due to the high cost of rent. The interviewee was talking about folks who had two degrees but were unable to afford a roof over their head. The inspectors also seem to be understaffed, and need an additional person(s) to go to these locations, b/c there are quite a lot. Also, having extra inspectors to visit locations on Saturdays and Sundays, would allow them to better catch some of the renters, or owners, at home. The owner of the Ghost Ship, from what I've read, actually resides overseas. People who do not want to lose a living space can be quite crafty at evading the inspectors/authorities.

I'm sorry, I'm going on an incredible lack of sleep. My sister is alive. We could not get a hold of her for some time. It was a nightmare. Her friend who has no family in the US also made it out.

Did you get any sense of how many where there and how many got out? maybe the numbers will be soothing.

That video from the guy in there an hour before was comforting it did not look like there were many there.

Maybe there were less in there than thought - would that not be wonderful

This AM when the death toll jumped brought back intense feelings of the news conference on Pulse when it went from 20 to 50 - it was a moment I will never forget.

I don't know if that was continuing to live there with their parents at the Ghost Ship or just continuing to live "there" at home with their parents. It is possible that on party nights, that they rented a motel room for the children. I will say, that it is pretty difficult to take children away from parents, permanently unless there are zero improvements made on the parent's part. There are children living in firetraps all throughout the United States.

Thank you both for explaining. It makes me sad that some have to hide who they are because people can't accept them. Prayers again for Gitana and all involved. My heart is hurting for the victims and their families.

She was adamant that you all know how much she appreciates all your kind words and love. It means so much to her during this awful time.

Gitana also asked that no one set up any sort of fund for her family. While she greatly appreciates the thought she would rather try and help her brother get the funds from the fundraising sites going on now for the families.

She needs your help with something else. She needs your incredible sleuthing skills.

Gitana wants to find out how her brother can go about applying for funds and making sure no one else tries to claim they are the next of kin and are the ones giving her sister-in-law the funeral.

1- Find out exactly what her brother has to do to apply for the funds

2-How does the fund make sure the money is going to the proper next of kin. Proper being the legal next of kin who has the right to hold the funeral.

The first responders have got to be past exhausted yeh 12 on 12 off but the human brain cannot process this kind of stuff - so its not like these men and woman are capable of going home and sleeping soundly.

It is dark even in daylight, they are in very dangerous setting where mental acuity is vital. If this is gonna take as long as they speculate I hope they are seriously thinking about bringing in other firemen and woman from surrounding departments.

Fatigue is a killer also
