CA - Maurice Taylor Jr, 12 & Maliaka Taylor, 13, decapitated, Lancaster, Dec 2020 *parents arrested*

Do we know how long they have lived there, in Lancaster? I can't make sense of him living there and working all the way in Santa Monica.
No nothing has been said about that yet. You'd be surprised at how many people that live here make commutes like that. Houses are so much cheaper, that many don't mind the commute because they save so much money. When it's costs $7-800000 for a 8-900 SQ foot condo and you can get a 1500 sq ft house for $300k depending on the neighborhood, it's understandable why people make commutes like that, even with the hellacious traffic on the 405. Even in the San Fernando Valley, house prices are double for an equivalent size house.

One of the least talked about impacts of CV19 :(.
Many kids who at least had the escape of school and benefit of external eyes on them, are stuck at home. It terrifies me to think of what some of them may be enduring.
So true. No one will notice if they're gone and there will be no one to see bruises...........

Palmdale, California
Average round-trip commute: 85.4 minutes
Ratio of weekly working hours to commuting hours: 5.3:1
Population commuting two-plus hours round-trip per day: 35%
The city, it concludes, “has the worst round-trip commute of any city in the nation.”
Commutes in this city are the longest in the US—and it's not NYC or San Francisco
Palmdale and Lancaster are virtually connected. The numbers in Lancaster are the same. There are many jobs available in the greater LA area. Home prices and rents however are exorbitant! While still in L.A. county, home prices and rents are much cheaper in Lancaster and Palmdale.

ETA: Sorry Dawookie! I didn't your response before I posted.

No problem! I don't know where they got that 85 min number but that's definitely in the low end unless they're going to the Santa Clarita Valley, northern end of the San Fernando Valley and even that's pushing it some days. My company's yard used to be in Sun Valley just north of Burbank and that drive would take over an hour in the afternoons and close to that in the mornings. If there's an accident, forget about it. For reference I'm currently on a project in Santa Monica working nights. It's 50 mins down and 50 mins back with no traffic. When I was on a project at LAX, it was absolutely horrible. It was 3-4 hrs a day normally and Friday afternoon alone would take me 3-4 hours to get home because of traffic all the way up the 405, then at the 5/405 interchange then the 5/14 split.

The commute is absolutely horrible at times but with the house prices up here, a lot of people see it as being worth it

I totally understand. I'm local too. ;)

I wonder if this man was doing steroids? Those do terrible things to people.
You may have it, @airportwoman -- steroids. Hmmmm.

Considering his job, could be, could be. And it apparently can make nice, good people to terrible things. I wonder if he was tested for steroids... Or seen by a health official who might recognize steroid use by him. Good point.

I was going to echo that thought, it's 70 miles. Bay area commuters travel a lot farther than that. I'll bet trainers in Santa Monica earn more than those in Lancaster also.

Yes, that was one of the first things that troubled me -- increased domestic violence, against a spouse or a child, due to being cooped-up -- and possibly no one at home to see and report it; loss of job or lesser hours; children are there all day; low on money, etc., etc.
Sometimes all it takes is one little match to start a heckuva fire.

Beheading is more than a heckuva fire. A rage is punching or strangling not beheading. That is a deep and serious mental health problem. Beheading one child, then still so enraged he does the other?

I wondered from the start of hearing of this case if these were 2 rebellious kids, an abusive husband and father and he just snapped with the pressures of the Covid financially and all being home together so much. No outlets. Not that it excuses any of this, but I wonder if it is what led up to it.
This is so horrendous I just can't imagine!

Someone in the house knows what happened and I'm sure the detectives have an idea of it but we won't know for a while

I was thinking an abused (rather than abusive) husband <modsnip>, financial troubles, troublesome teenagers and he snapped. Certainly possible that he snapped from too much together time.

... all speculation

I can see snapping.....but to the point of beheading your own children? I just can't comprehend that.

My thoughts, too. That's a long haul in a dense area.
Right, I was confused because I thought that there have to be plenty of good PT jobs in the nicer parts of San Fernando Valley, I know that houses are way more expensive there and you get more for less money in Lancaster but still, making that trip can’t be fun.

That would depend on a lot though, like his wife having a good source of income too, etc.

My thought process was honestly just to try to understand if this was a new thing for them, if they moved there recently of this has been going on for a while.

A property owner in the area told the Times he thought only two children lived in the home.

He said the home environment 'looked strange' with the family keeping themselves to themselves and the windows were often 'blacked out' in a neighborhood where most others would stop and chat outside.

Personal trainer dad, 34, is arrested for 'decapitating his daughter, 13, and son, 12' | Daily Mail Online

Very odd that a personal trainer would have blacked out windows and not be seen outside with his kids ,socialising with the neighbours. Most trainers work 'word of mouth' and rely upon meeting new clients in the area.
