CA - Maurice Taylor Jr, 12 & Maliaka Taylor, 13, decapitated, Lancaster, Dec 2020 *parents arrested*

And he made the young boys see the decapitated bodies, then go sit in their rooms, WITHOUT any food for days at a time?

Those poor boys will need a lot of professional care and a strong support system.

Is their Mother mentally competent? We don't hear much about her- but she was supposedly there in the home----???? How did that work?
I have no idea, but the poor lady can’t be in great shape either. She probably saw her babies too. And that’s most likely what kept her quiet, I don’t doubt he told her that he would do it to the younger children if she didn’t do as he said.

There’s no doubt those poor kids will need so much help. Professional help. And a stable home, and love, and care and lots of patience. Their mother too.

In a press conference Wednesday, defending his decision, Gascon responded to questions about extreme cases - like a recent double murder out of Lancaster.

Maurice Jewel Taylor Sr. is accused of decapitating his two oldest children and forcing his younger children to look at their bodies.

The detective assigned to the grisly murder says Gascon's decision to not include special circumstance charges could shorten Taylor's sentence.

"In this particular case, if this person is found guilty of the crimes that he's being accused, he would be in prison for more than half a century," Gascon said. "What would be the utility to take somebody that is probably going to spend the rest of his life in prison, to continue to add years and waste taxpayers' money in additional litigation?"

A Democratic lawmaker is also chiming in Gascon's blanket decision.

Democratic State Assemblymember Richard Bloom says removing special circumstances like hate crime felony enhancers is "a major mistake."

According to deputy district attorneys who work for Gascon, the DA's decision will not be reversed.

Thursday, Feb. 4th:
*Further Proceedings Hearing (@ 8:30am PT) – CA- Maurice Taylor, Jr. (12) & Maliaka Taylor (13)(on Nov. 29, 2020, found on Dec. 4, 2020, Lancaster, found decapitated) - *Maurice Jewel Taylor, Sr. (34) father arrested (12/4/20) & charged (12/8/20) with 2 counts of felony murder & 2 counts child abuse under circumstances likely to cause great bodily injury or death (8 & 9 yr. old boys were starved for several days). Plead not guilty. $4.2M Bond.
Detectives have learned that L.A. County Fire Personnel received a call at the location regarding a possible gas leak. Fire personnel responded & made entry into the location, at which time they saw a male & a female deceased inside the location. Fire personnel immediately called L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept. Lancaster Station deputies, which responded & secured the location. Detectives have learned that the deceased male & female both appeared to be suffering from lacerations & stab wounds. At the location there was also one male & one female adult, along with two other children who are currently being questioned by Homicide Investigators.
12/4/20 Update: Initial hearing on 12/8/20 was cancelled. 12/8/20 Update: Taylor was ordered to be held in lieu of $4.2 million bail while awaiting arraignment Dec. 21 in a Lancaster courtroom on 2 felony counts each of murder & child abuse under circumstances likely to cause great bodily injury or death. (the child abuse charges pertain to boys 8 & 9 years old, who were shown the bodies & forced to stay in their rooms & starved for several days). Also Mental competency referral order on 12/21/20.
12/21/20 Update: Taylor Sr. was arraigned at Antelope Valley Courthouse where is said to have refused an attorney & told Judge Alan Rosenfield he was not guilty. But did not enter any plea officially. On Monday he told the court police & other inmates were trying kill him & said he was an 'educated fitness trainer which is equal to being a doctor'. A mental health court hearing and evaluation was scheduled for Jan. 6, and a status update was set for Jan. 13. Taylor had been held in lieu of $4.2 million bail. If convicted, he faces a possible maximum sentence of more than 57 years to life in state prison. A mental competency referral was ordered.
1/13/21 Update: Further proceedings hearing was rescheduled on 2/4/21.

What is a 1368 PC:
This is called “declaring a doubt” as to defendant's mental competence under Penal Code § 1368. The judge must then suspend the criminal proceedings and order an expert's evaluation of defendant to determine if defendant is, in fact, mentally incompetent.

I have a feeling this is going to be a long, drawn out trial. I'm surprised we aren't hearing anything else about what was going on in that home. It's like it's completely disappeared from the local news in So. Cal.

Maybe it will pick up a bit more when August rolls around. I guess he is getting "treatment" for his "mental state"....

Just came across this case today....and it's just devastating.
Those. Poor. Children.
I can't imagine what the younger siblings have been going through. I hope they are receiving good therapeutic help.

I agree. It's horrific. I'm surprised there aren't more members following. I think it's a bit like the Gabriel Fernandez case. Just too upsetting to follow.
