*Trial continues (Day 10) (@ 8:30am PT) – CA- Maurice Taylor, Jr. (12) & Maliaka Taylor (13) (killed on Nov. 29, 2020, found on Dec. 4, 2020, Lancaster, found decapitated) – *Maurice Jewel Taylor, Sr. (34/now 38) “father” arrested (12/4/20), charged (12/8/20) & arraigned (12/21/20) & re-arraigned (11/10/21) & re-arraigned (4/26/22) with 2 counts of felony murder & 2 counts child abuse under circumstances likely to cause great bodily injury or death (8 & 9 yr. old boys were starved for several days). Plead not guilty. $4.2M Bond.

Isn't there any media covering Lancaster county? Surely this must be a big case. It's horrific and involves 4 child victims.

Just FYI. This case is in Lancaster California in Los Angeles County.

These delays are incredibly frustrating, but typical. You've got nine days of jury selection then suddenly the word "continued" and then some sort of hearing in November? There's no limit to the absurdities in California courts.
So maybe we'll get a trial next year sometime?! Pardon my cynicism.

- MT & NB married 2007. Shared 4 children. (Malaika/ Maurice Jr a.k.a Lil Man/ Mx and Mt) [I'm not posting the names of the younger 2 boys.]
- reclusive family. No friends. Lived on Century Circle since 2013.
- many neighbors had no idea anyone lived in the home.
- children homeschooled entire life. No friends except each other. No activities.
- kids had never been to a doctor. Family relied on alternative medicine and holistic remedies.
- MT was fitness trainer. NB worked in home focused on house and homeschooling.
- MT's gym shut down during Covid so held sessions with clients via Zoom.
- Prior to Thanksgiving 2000 MT started plant-based diet. Nov 27 was last day MT met with a client.
- Annie Winhousen (sp?), a concerned client (?), convinced LE to do wellness check on Dec 2. LE responded to house....no response.
- AW still concerned and convinced LE to go back on Dec 3. LE knocked....no response.
- AW called in possible gas leak on Dec 4. Fire and EMT respond. Looked in window and saw possible person down. Entered house.
- in first bedroom found 2 youngest huddling under covers, terrified. Emergency responders took them outside. Boys said they hadn't eaten in 3 days.
- further down hall, in next bedroom, found Lil Man bound with duct tape, stabbed in the chest and decapitated.
- across hall 13 year old Malaika was found stabbed in the chest, bound with duct tape and decapitated. MT Sr was lying on the floor beside the bed, awake. NB was lying in the bed, sheets pulled up to her neck, glasses on, eyes open, but she didn't respond to fire personnel. Fire personnel decided to get Sheriff's deputies involved.
- fire leaves home and deputies arrive shortly. Deputies call out to people in home but get no response.
- deputies enter the home and find MT & NB are now in their own bedroom, under the sheets, fully dressed with shoes on, pretending to be asleep.
- after non-response, deputies pulled both of them out of the bed and out of the house. They were detained in a police car.
- detectives Steven Black (sp?) and Vincent Choy (sp?) were called in for the homicide investigation.
- first priority was to do a forensic interview with the 2 surviving boys. Dr. Lauren Maltby, a forensic interviewer and psychologist with experience with traumatized children interviewed them. The boys were clearly traumatized. There were many basic tasks they didn't know how to do. [I'm not going to detail them here as they deserve privacy.]
- the young boys were clearly suffering from the delusions passed on by there parents and were referring to their older deceased siblings as the 'boy demon' and the 'girl demon'. [ ]
- after the young boys were placed in safe care and had some time (the next month) to heal they were able to share more information about how their siblings had been killed.
- during a follow up forensic interview in June 2021 the young boys provided more information. They said that the family played a 'game' with a pendulum with a necklace containing crystals. The outcome of the game was that MT said that the two oldest children were demons and they wanted to hurt the family and they had to be ...[unalived]. MT and NB took Lil Man into the bedroom. They heard loud sounds, crying and screaming. They saw their mother come out of the bedroom, go to the kitchen, and 'get weapons' (i.e. knives). The young boys were then told to go to the bathroom and lock themselves in there. []
- MT and NB took Malaika into the master bedroom and the surviving boys could hear the horror that happened there.
- MT & NB ordered the 2 young boys to go into the master bedroom to look at Malaika's decap... body. they told them that the only way that they wouldn't become bad or become demons was to look at her head to prove that the demon had been exorcized from the body. []
- the boys were told to go to their room. They stayed there for 3 days. They thought surely someone would come and get them in a couple of hours. But no one came to get them even though they heard their parents in the house. The only way they survived is that one of the boys snuck out of the room once to get a bottle of water. He had to pass something horrific. [I won't post it here.]
- the boys stayed in their room until they were rescued.
- the surviving boys are now 13 and 14 and have processed what happened in very different ways. They are expected to testify at the trial. They haven't seen their parents since late November 2020. [I am sobbing and heartbroken for them.]
- the boys are expected to speak to other times of abuse by their parents.
- [I'm leaving out some particularly graphic comments about the murdered children's bodies.]
- an axe and a machete were found in the master bedroom. Additional knives and weapons were found around and under Lil Man's body.

This case is a grab bag of all the worst things. It reminds me a lot of the triple child killing in Brownsville. Similar folie a deux.

Any information why it took longer to arrest the mother? I remember the father was arrested first and then, some time later (I want to say, months) it was reported that the mother was also arrested.

I’m not sure. They had a tight case against the father right at the beginning. He originally confessed. Mom claimed she was abused . But from the boys testimonies to the psychologist who spent time with them, it sounds like they implicated the mother in the killings as well as the neglect of them. Those poor children. The mom wasn’t allowed to see or speak to them even before she was indicted. Then lost full custody. They didn’t even go to trial on that. One son was adopted and the other has very serious behavior problems and is in some sort of foster care. I sure hope they don’t make those boys testify and have to face those monsters.

Taylor was arrested on 12/4/20 & Brothwell on 9/18/21 per my notes.
And I believe @BajaMah - is correct on the delay of arresting the mother.

This is absolutely horrendous. Reminiscent of Chad Daybell & Lori Vallow imho.

From the opening statement it sounds like this happened on 1st December.. Annie Winhousen seems an absolute hero for calling on a welfare check the very next day.. otherwise we could easily be looking at the deaths of four children here. IMO.

Annie Winhousen’s two welfare checks did not even work! She had to lie and report a gas leak at the house. So glad she persisted- not one, not two, but three times. She stuck her neck out and lied to authorities and it saved the youngest two boys lives!

One of the most gruesome and horrifying cases I’ve seen on here. It’s likely these children knew nothing but fear. I pray for them to get the resources and support and love after all they’ve been through

I hope they’re given an alternative way to testify. Unimaginable..
