CA CA - Melodee Buzzard, 9, Vandenberg Village, 14 Oct 2025

This reminds me of Madalina Cojocari! She was discovered missing after not having been at school in a long period of time and neither her mother or stepfather were able to give any kind of explanation for where she was. She's still missing.

I hope Melodee is safely located soon and this is just some kind of miscommunication problem.

I wonder what the parent(s) actually did say. They need to be arrested, immediately drug tested, and interviewed by someone with a lot of experience. (I do like to state the obvious.)

When deputies first responded to the little girl's home this week, Melodee and her mom, Ashlee Buzzard, weren't there, and “no clear explanation was provided" for where Melodee was, the sheriff’s office said.

Then, on Wednesday night, deputies returned to the home and Ashlee Buzzard was there, but Melodee was not, Zick said. Zick did not disclose what Ashlee Buzzard told investigators.

No one else lives at the house, Zick said, noting that Melodee's father is deceased. Law enforcement executed a search warrant on the home on Wednesday night, Zick said.

Although the sheriff's office said Melodee is homeschooled, a California Department of Education spokesperson said there’s no record of Ashlee Buzzard filing an annual private school affidavit, which is a requirement for homeschooling.

“Per state law, the CDE does not assess or physically inspect private or homeschools,” the spokesperson said. “Filing an annual affidavit is the only thing that is required.”

In your first linked article it appears that MB's mother never filed the paperwork for homeschooling her daughter. I bet there are no home school books or supplies at the house.

The police can require AB to present MB for a welfare check, can't they? I remember them doing that on another recent case.
