Community protest in front of the house Sunday afternoon. The deputies say that they don't believe AB has been home for the last 48 hours, but neighbors say that she has been there.

The FBI has announced it is assisting Santa Barbara County sheriff's detectives with the Melodee Buzzard case.

*****
A few dozen people from the community came together along Mars Avenue late Sunday afternoon, pushing for answers from Melodee's mother, Ashlee Buzzard.

*****
Tensions rose Sunday as families demanded immediate information, saying in unison, “Where is Melodee?” and "We want answers," over and over outside the home.

Well here we go, I wondered when the search warrant returns would come back for her electronics. Sounds like the FBI may be assisting with that.

Could we be looking at the horrendous possibility of trafficking? Or a situation out of state?

Neighbors strongly disagree, telling KSBY Community Reporter Crystal Bermudez they’ve seen signs of activity.

“Besides the garage been open almost 48 hours, which, we don’t know if she knows or not, she was burning something in the fireplace last night, but paper was coming out,” said Kacey Monreal, whose parents live nextdoor to the missing girl’s home.

i wondered about trafficking. if it's true there are drug problems here, could a sufficiently motivated addict sell their kid? JMO.

if it is trafficking, i guess there's a good chance she's at least still alive, though probably lower that she'll ever be found.

Burning something in the fireplace and paper was coming out? That sounds extremely suspicious considering the circumstances.

Wasn't Diana Cojocari also seen burning things in the back yard fire pit after Madalina went missing? 🤔

Educational and Legal Context

California mandates parents who homeschool children to file a private school affidavit annually, a requirement that Melodee’s mother reportedly neglected, hindering official oversight and welfare checks. This regulatory gap may have contributed to the delay in identifying and investigating the disappearance.

Legal experts point to the need for stricter educational monitoring and child welfare liaison coordination to ensure that homeschooled children, a growing population, do not fall through bureaucratic cracks.

This is the first time I've considered -- maybe we can get a rare WS happy ending here?????

However, if she's alive somewhere, why in the world would he mom withhold that information now?

Compelling though -- alive two weeks ago.

Please let that still be the case somehow.

Well, I wasn't expecting that. Nebraska? What's going on here?

Gives me some hope that she was alive recently.

What advantage would there be to, for lack of better wording, re-homing her? That wouldn't result in sharing that info with LE straightaway?

That's troubling.

Please let her be OK. We hardly ever get good news on these threads.

has anyone discovered any ties Ashlee may have to Nebraska?

I'd like to know about this rental car. Is that where someone remembers seeing Melodee? At the rental car company? Why did she need to rent a car? Was she avoiding license plate readers or is her car high mileage or similar? Did she leave Melodee somewhere and drive home or did she drop off the car and fly?
She's being secretive and avoidant when if Melodee is safe there is no need to not be forthright. What or who is in Nebraska.
With only 13 days being missing I hope some info can be gleaned from traffic cams - makes me think of Hannah Anderson.

I’m going to go down a Google rabbit hole when I get a sec but does anyone remember the last time she was seen on the neighbors video?

Just had a thought that just because she was at registration doesn’t mean she lived with mom

Is Lori Miranda still around I wonder?
When googling Melodee's name this link came up https://www.cyberbackgroundchecks.com/detail/melodee-buzzard/pidqmgamqaxayqbxmplpll

Considering she's only 9 years old, I thought at first it was a mistake. But then looking at this person's possible relatives, that name comes up in the first spot. So, it's not a mistake. Someone related to LM used Melodee's name for something that allowed her to end up on a site like this.

It's been decades but I recall hearing about parents using their kid's name & other fraudulent info to apply for credit cards. NOT that I'm saying this is what happened here, but it was the first thing to come to mind.

If you click on LM's name, her first listed relative JM has an address in Nebraska.

Families often recycle names.

Maybe they have family in Nebraska.

If she were older, I might wonder if she got sent away (hidden) due to pregnancy.

If she's alive, handed off to family, why wouldn't that information be turned over to LE?

I have questions.
