I wonder how close in contact she keeps with all of her relatives and their current addresses? People can lose contact when there are difficult family situations, divorces, etc. Perhaps someone has moved to Nebraska and she wasn't aware.

Sure that's certainly possible that a couple different relatives live or lived in Nebraska and she wasn't aware of it.
Hopefully the Nebraska trip reveals where this little girl is, and hopefully she's okay.

I think the Nebraska connection is either going to be an internet connection or a random place to drive for reasons unknown. But, honestly, I have no idea what is going on.

It all comes back down to why the mother is not cooperating & disclosing the location of her child.
That's the part that makes me fearful she's not well (or not alive).
I'd very much like to be wrong about that.

Trying to catch up so apologies if this was already posted but IMO important information:

The mother was possibly driving a white Chevrolet Malibu with the California license plate 9MNG101, which was determined to be a rental car and is no longer in Buzzard's possession.

According to Santa Barbara County Superior Court records, documents matching Ashlee Buzzard’s name and address show she is under legal scrutiny around allegations of unpaid debts. Some of the most recent legal proceedings included a May collections case from Capital One. The same company also sued her in civil court in December 2024, alleging she owed $2,778.84. And in 2024, a debt collection agency filed a case against her seeking $4,182.57 in damages that she allegedly owed to Discover Bank, though that case has seen been dismissed.

I agree with you, from what we know - this is a woman who has had no contact with her family who lives 15 miles away for over two years. We're to believe she's found a family member in Nebraska, who no one else knows about and gave Melodee to them? IMO, that's not likely but I guess you never know.

Nebraska State Patrol Assisting in Search for Missing California Girl​

In a statement to KLIN News, Nebraska State Patrol spokesperson Cody Thomas confirmed that state investigators “are assisting,” adding that the FBI is the lead agency in the search.

Santa Barbara County detectives are urging anyone who has seen Melodee or Ashlee Buzzard since October 7 to contact their Criminal Investigations Division at (805) 681-4150. Anonymous tips can be submitted online at sbsheriff.org or through the tip line at (805) 681-4171.

Officials emphasized that while public concern is high, residents should not attempt to conduct independent searches, saying those efforts could interfere with ongoing investigative work.

I hope they have a way to make sure that the child that visited the school was actually Melodee though. If she had only just enrolled, it's unlikely anyone at the school knew her. It may be unlikely, but not impossible, that she was already missing and a child was "borrowed" to stand in as her. Would school staff definitely speak to a child in this scenario or is there a chance to avoid that?

I wondered that, too. I think I mentioned Kyran Durnin earlier in this thread, but his family did that exact thing when Tusla (Irish CPS) demanded a face-to-face meeting

I recall that article, but that's Melodee's father's family that haven't seen her in years. Not Ashlee's family.
I know Ashlee's mother said she hadn't spoken to her in a year and a half or two years, but I haven't heard anything about her dad, cousins, siblings, etc. Maybe none of them have seen her either but I haven't seen it mentioned so I thought I'd missed something.

No, I don't know for sure if she has any other family at all. Dad, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. No one was mentioned except her mom, so we don't know if there is other family, or if she's in contact with any of them.

if grandma's story about the CPS visit is true, then ashlee's a mess, and it's harder to be confident of any particular theory.

i believe this is now corroboration of what melodee's father's family said about ashlee having mental health problems. it's coming from both extended families.
