News articles say detectives had to kayak to the scene when the body was first found. I would guess that originally he was buried farther from the river, and that the water had come closer to the grave in that time (26 years)? That's what may have finally allowed his shoes to be seen and then his remains found? Just a thought I had.
His head never has been found, although a partial skull that DNA can not be gotten from was found in the area in 2020. However, it is not thought to be his. It leaves you to wonder if his head was removed on purpose to hinder his identification or whether it was carried off by the river at some point.
