I searched around a little bit for missing people in California, but could not find anything interesting. (It's not super easy to search on Websleuths).

Perhaps someone else might find this info useful.

Bob Harrod, missing from Orange County:

CA - CA - Bob Harrod, 81, Orange County, 27 July 2009 - #19

Heartwarming, and heartbreaking, story about Bob & Fontelle! Bob & Fontelle were engaged, then Uncle Sam called Bob to the Marine Corp toward the end of WWII.

Fontelle's letters didn't reach Bob.

Bob married his landlord's daughter. (I have some questions about Fontelle's letters, do you?)

Bob & wife have 3 daughters, Bob works hard & works well & retires a millionaire.

Bob's wife passes after a battle with cancer.

A couple years later, Bob reconnects with Fontelle. They are married in a quiet courthouse ceremony after a "heated" family discussion.

Before Bob can add Fontelle to any of his accounts, he disappears.

Son-in-law is the last person to see him.

Grandson stops making his mortgage payment -- to Bob's estate.

Apparently no one in the family looks for Bob. They do ask Fontelle Harrod to leave her marital home!

But they wait until Bob can be declared legally dead & accept his hard-earned $$$$.

Sigh.
