This article appeared today, don't know why now or what the money aspect is all about.

I wish there was some info saying *where* in this very large county the remains were found.

There's a map with coordinates linked on NamUs. I know that sometimes when a specific location isn't given this will default to the center point of the county but I'm not familiar enough with this area to know if that happened here.

The link you posted is to crowdfund the money necessary to have his remains DNA tested for genetic genealogy.

Thank you! I looked at the NAMUS page before but somehow missed the link to the map until you mentioned it.

The location is NOT the generic center of the county, and it's much closer to town than I had been thinking.

I'm still slightly uncertain because the remains are listed as being found by a hunter, but the map shows a location very close to a main road and far too close to buildings etc to be a hunting location. However, it could always be that the hunter was themselves passing by on their way to or from their hunting location.

And thanks, too, for reading the article more carefully than I did, regarding the fundraising aspect. Appreciated!

Going to copy this post in from another thread on ths gentleman.

Hey! Stock numbers that I am more than acquainted with! Given the stock number of the Army Jacket found with the decedant given above, I've run the number to get a photo of the specific type.

They first entered into service in 1965, so thousands of them issued; many for sale on e-bay etc, so I don't think that will narrow the search down any for identification purposes.

BUT, it is a distinctive coat for someone to be wearing and to someone who knows this man, perhaps seeing the jacket and the individuals physical description together will trigger a memory of this individual.

The stock number is a NATO stock number, but I've added the "00" into the equation at the appropriate place to indicate "United States" (each NATO country has it's own "XX" identifiers in the NSN system for their kit and this database is applicable to all NATO nations. OG-107 (Olive Green clothing) is headed by "8415" #s, so the "8405" is a generic # - it's "8415" specific.

So, 84057822939 given above becomes "8415 00 782 2939" for search purposes.

The NSN Database search shows this description for this military kit as follows:
