Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to the slayings of his father and mother, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, setting up a case that could test his potential defense surrounding his mental fitness to stand trial.

The plea, entered in a downtown Los Angeles courthouse in front of a throng of media, begins what could be a lengthy legal process, a period during which Reiner’s lawyers are expected to question his mental state leading up to and during the killings. It could be over a year before he faces a trial, if there is one.

I’m glad NR is starting with a regular “not guilty” plea, perhaps his attorney advised him he did not meet the threshold for NGRI. I suppose NGRI can be brought up later, but for now, regular criminal track.
He could go through the criminal case, guilty, IMO, likely as we already know he did it.
Then, during sentencing, his attorney could help NR to mitigate his sentence by weighing in heavily with Mental Health experts, NR’s own Doctors. Try to get sympathy of jury, to get a step down at sentencing. Just wondering if this may be his attorneys thinking.
What I want for him is life in prison, he killed two beloved people, too dangerous to ever get out.
