That doesn't sound like she dove in and hit her head then. What would cause her to fall back in and under when she was right there putting him on the boat? A leg or stomach cramp? Something physical that happened to her? It's like the ladder was possibly right there. This is so very sad. Little guy can at least live with the knowledge that his mom made sure he was safe. JMO

I agree. Now that they described more of what he told them I don't think she dove in.

How does one have enough energy to boost her son up and just not enough left to get herself onboard? So many unanswered questions. I wonder if after the autopsy they will be able to say for certain what happened

The Medical Examiner's Office has been notified and is responding. Identification has not yet been made.

For the news briefing, only credentialed members of the media will be allowed in. The lake remains closed to the public at this time..

So the Sheriff speculated that Naya was surprised by afternoon strong currents in the water, maybe the boat drifted a little, she used all her energy to get her son onto the boat but couldn't save herself utterly devastating. RIP Naya.

Also that the body was probably caught in thick undergrowth and has surfaced due to gases of decomposition.

They seem to think that a strong current caused the boat to drift, and that she managed to hoist her son up to the boat but not herself before being carried by the current. The sheriff said it's speculation at the minute, but the current can get quite strong at mid-afternoon, which is when they believe she went missing.

The boat wasn't anchored when they went into the water so it sounds like they swam back to the boat and she managed to get her son close enough to get back on but didn't make it back in herself. Maybe once they got close to the ladder, he climbed up and the boat drifted further from her while she was still in the water. So sad.

So sad for her family and friends and mostly Josey. He is survived by a very loving family. He will survive this heartbreaking tragedy. Such a freak accident.

Let this be a lesson to everyone, always where your life vest because if you go unconscious you will float. It’s even worse knowing it probably would have saved her life.

Authorities confirm body in Lake Piru is Naya Rivera. Coroner to perform autopsy to determine how she died.

I just got the alert that Naya's remains have been found.
Such a loss of a beautiful, talented soul. RIP dear girl, and prayers for your loved ones. So sad.

I thought there was a photo showing the boat after it was back at the dock and the gate was open and the ladder was down.

She could have slipped on the wet ladder and her leg or foot became tangled into the motor blades beside the ladder.
