GUILTY CA - Nina Reiser, 31, Oakland, 3 September 2006

Nina's van had groceries in it, didn't it? If so, maybe Hans had his mother watch the children and followed his wife to the grocery store. He could have abducted her as she was putting the groceries in her van. Then, he could have taken her somewhere and killed her.

Doesn't explain the carpet and door the police took from the home, unless he came back home and transferred some of her blood on them.

Maybe this is how it was done:
He calls her over to the house to drop off the kids "grandma wants to see them". Once there, the kids are distracted or sent to play with grandma because the "parents need to talk". An argument ensues and Nina is killed (accidentally perhaps). Quick plan is needed and in a rush Hans decides to roll the body up in a carpet. The car: Hans quickly runs out and drives the car some miles away (not too far as he needs to walk back). Back home, he waits until night-time to dispose of the carpet/body.

That's just a theory and it depends on her having gone shopping for groceries before dropping off the kids.

I had posted this on the 'Silence of the Lamb' thread and out of posterity I'm putting it here too. It could just be a coincidence that these other two women went missing so soon after Ms Lamb was murdered and both disappeared in the same way, leaving a grocery store.

Stephanson who has been arrested for Lambs murder might have already been in custody on the 5th, but we haven't really clarified a Timeline yet, so I think possibilities abound here if Reiser isn't guilty. By the way I found this by Googling and it came from a comment at Scared Monkey's:

"It seems there are two other Oakland women who went missing right after Ms Lamb was found I Googled Stefanson + Oakland murderer and actually got several articles about this man:

http://missingexploited.com/2006/10...ement/#comments

snip
' . . In respect to the timeline of the disappearances and the identity of the victims I assert the following:

On August 26, 2006: Ms. Leslie Lamb, who had been secretly
seeing Mr. Stephanson over the preceeding three-month period is driven to the hospital with major injuries from the torture and beating sustained at Mr. Stephanson’s home. She is left at the hospital with a statement from Stephanson that Ms. Lamb was found in her car in that condition. She dies within minutes of her arrival.

On September 5, 2006: Ms. Nina Reiser, of Russian descent, is abducted on her way home from the grocery store. The unoccupied vehicle is reported to police about a week later, however it is ascertained that the vehicle had been in that location since around the time of Ms. Reiser’s disappearance. No body is found.

On September 9, 2006: Joanna “Asha” Veil, of Poland descent, is abducted on her way home from her work (a grocery store) in the Bay area. Her unoccupied vehicle is found within a quarter-mile from her job. Within days her body is found, face down, in a wilderness area between a dirt road and a creek.

I believe that Mr. Stephanson had a crush (as people like him are never really capable of loving anyone) on Ms. Lamb and upon murdering her, he felt guilty. She is the only vicim that he reported or tried to save after severely beating her.

But, once the rage was released, Mr. Stephanson lost control and/or felt the need to murder again. I believe that Ms. Reiser and Ms. Veil were “chance” encounters and were true random murders.

I hope I am wrong, but I have lived in that area, and I have seen how these things go. I am grateful that he was stopped before he hurt anymore women as most of these people will never stop until they are stopped. . ."

Does anyone know what day they arrested Stephanson?

Now that I think about it a bit more, all three women are cases in the same cop shop, namely Oakland's Homicide division, right? If they still think Reiser killed his wife knowing all about Stephanson, there has to be a reason for it.

I'm amazed that within a matter of days 2 women have gone missing that were involved with w different Oakland men involved in S&M sex torturing. Pretty bizare, and am now wondering if these two guys knew each other. I don't know where they buy their equipment, but it could be they shop at the same naughty store! LOL

Check out the google map:

From Berkeley Bowl to Reiser House

10-15 min drive.

And, if you look at the satellite photos, Reiser lives really close to a densely wooded region to the east of his house (to dispose of a body). The thornhill neighbourhood is in the other direction, so I think the car might have been used to throw people off, so to speak.

Now I see in the opening link that Nina went missing on Oct 3rd: " . .Nina Reiser, 31, has been missing since Sept. 3".

So Stephanson , if arrested on the 3rd could still be a possibility. I bet they don't have the DNA back yet on the blood from two different woman found in his house.

Gosh it is so coincidental, isn't it, that blood from 2 other women was found in his house and 2 other women went missing within days of Ms Lamb. Sends a little chill right down one's back!

all questions i would imagine L.E. have investigated in exquisite detail.

torching the minivan may have drawn too much attention at the time and someone may have noticed him there.

where were the kids? i expect there is an answer to this which we'll learn in time.

at present, L.E. appear to be holding their cards to their chest, for some reason.

i really find it hard to believe they'd arrest him with no evidence of what he was up to back then.

That is odd. All they have said is that everything leads back to him. And he is an absolute genius. He started college at UC Berkeley right after he finished the 8th grade. That in itself is amazing, and they might not want him out there to do anything to compromise the crime scene for instance. Never know what a guy like this could suddenly think of to try to get out of a suspicious mode.

I know that this point has nothing to do with the case; however, as I understand it, he dropped out of school in the 8th grade and supposedly started college at age 15. I don't think that he was 15 years old in the 8th grade. ;)

I think that he is a little nuts. Of course, my opinion is always subject to change...just ask my husband. :)

Yea, the very brilliant people are often like this, eccentric as all get out. Can you imagine living with a guy like this?

Police: 'All Avenues Led Back To Mr. Reiser'

Authorities would not discuss what evidence they have, but they did say Hans Reiser will be charged and the case will proceed with or without Nina Reiser's body, NBC11's Ethan Harp reported.

"We explored all avenues of her life," Joyner said. "All avenues led back to Mr. Reiser being responsible."

Anyone got a pic of Mr Reiser?
Yesterday I could find pictures of him, today I can't...

Interesting article:
Mercury News article
KTVU

More Details:

- splatters of Nina Reiser's blood found in the house and Hans' 98 Honda hatchback. According to DuBois, Reiser's attorney, "They're talking about traces of biological evidence, and when people live together for years, it's not uncommon for them to deposit trace evidence." -- especially given the alleged history of domestic abuse. Globin-chain dating to determine the age of the blood sample might be important (don't know how accurate this test is).

- Hans Reiser removed the passenger seat of his 1988 Honda hatchback and he attempted to hide the vehicle from authorities. The seat is still missing.

- Police also discovered several books on police investigations purchased by the Hans after the Sept.3 disappearance of Nina Reiser. (!) -- Were these books found in the first or second search?

- Nina's car was found in the Thornhill area and was spotted on Sept. 5 (?)

- Lyamin, a sysadmin for Namesys (Reiser's company), said "we are rather shaken and stressed at the moment, although I cannot say we didn't see it coming." -- weird.

Hans Reiser To Face Murder Charge

http://www.nbc11.com/news/10058993/detail.html

Hernandez reported the passenger seat of Hans Reiser's 1998 Honda hatchback is missing.

What earthly reason would he give for that?

and the books. why the books on how police investigate homicides?

and this:

Sources also told NBC11 that Hans Reiser was seen walking around town with several thousand dollars in cash and his passport.

Hmmmmm Seems like people at his company expected he was capable of committing murder and possibly they knew he was on bad terms with her for some reason. Like wasn't she in a sadistic relationship with the S&M guy. Hey. that would be a good reason if you could ever justify cold blooded murder! :banghead:

This article details the timeline a little bit better than all the others:

Blood evidence revealed in Reiser case
San Francisco Chronicle
Henry K. Lee, Chronicle Staff Writer
Thursday, October 12, 2006

"Police believe Hans Reiser killed his wife Sept. 3, the day she dropped off their two children at his home on Exeter Drive in the Oakland hills, sources said."

"Nina Reiser was last seen Sept. 3, when she dropped off the couple's two children at Hans Reiser's home after she went shopping at the Berkeley Bowl supermarket. The children heard their parents "possibly involved in an argument," Gill's statement said. One of the children later reported to police that they were using "not nice words," the statement said.

At one point, Hans Reiser told his son, then 6, to go downstairs and "not to come back upstairs, not even to the kitchen area," the statement said. The boy turned 7 on Sept. 28."

"Nina Reiser's 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan was found Sept. 9 on Fernwood Drive, about three miles from Hans Reiser's home and near Highway 13. Groceries were found strewn in the back seat "in such disarray that it appeared that it was a result of the vehicle being driven rapidly and possibly recklessly," the police statement said.

Scent-tracking dogs didn't pick up Nina Reiser's odor outside of the vehicle, suggesting that she had never been in the area, the statement said.

Her cell phone was found in the minivan with its battery removed, police said. Investigators said the last call had been placed to Hans Reiser's home at 2:02 p.m. Sept. 3.

Investigators listened to voice-mail messages on the phone. "Not one call was left by Hans Reiser to express concern, or to inquire about her whereabouts, or even mention that he had the children after picking them up from school on Sept. 6," the police statement said."

There are other details in the article.

Thanks IB Nora,

I always think the San Francisco Chronicle and the Oakland Tribune are excellent when it comes to articles on crime !

I think  {have an awful cold :boohoo: } I read Reiser was running around Oakland with thousands of dollars in his pocket. He could have been a great flight risk which is one reason why the police nabbed him so soon.

Good for Dan Horowitz, but boy oh boy, looks like he might have his hands full with this case! For a genius, it seems Reiser wasn't too smart in the common sense dept. He must have been emotionally traumatized over what she was doing in her life, having a family and all, and he grew to detest her so much he just flat out killed her in the kitchen {maybe, but his house nonetheless}.

I don't think I read if they were estranged or divorced. Do you know? Thanks.

Reiser home to Nina's car

I wonder how he got back if he did drop off that car there? Did he have a friend drive him back or did he walk?

Also:-

1. Spattered blood was found in the living room of his Montclair home.

2. Nina and Hans were arguing in the living room when one of his kids came upstairs. The son was told to go back downstairs and not come back up.

3. (allegedly) Hans Reiser had physically assaulted Nina Reiser in the past, which could account for some blood evidence {possible explanation}

4. The 'ditched' car was locked. Nina's cell phone had its battery removed.

5. The two books bought by Hans on Sept. 8 were "Homicide" by David Simon and "Masterpieces of Murder" by Jonathan Goodman. They were bought four days after Nina was reported missing and three days after police talked to him. Knowing he was the most likely suspect I think he wanted to familiarise himself with police procedure in murder investigations.

6. The (1-inch by 3-inch) blood stain found in the car was on a sleeping bag stuff-sack.

Thanks Jacobi,

Since Reiser had told his child not to go in the kitchen, I blindly assumed the kitchen was the crime scene. :slap:

This case might turn out to be an interesting study. I am alarmed at all the S&M that is going on in Oakland right now, with 2 very recent murders involving people who take part in it. Wish Glitz was here as she's know if it is a general trend or a center for it.

Hey Glitch! LOL Scandi

PS: Has anyone here read either of these two books he had in his car?

I was searching through my library thinking I had that Goodman book, but it was another crime book by the same author. Damn.

Anyway, I was reading up on "Masterpieces of Murder" and it's basically a compendium of thirty-five famous cases, ranging from Al Capone to Jesse James, from Dennis Nilsen to John Lennon... However, one of the cases is that of 'edgar wallace's missing corpse'. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any details on it.
