i want to add, it mentioned upthread that this area is very desolate and bleak. i want to expound on that, i actually drove to Vegas a few weeks ago via 58 to the 15 and passed through barstow, newberry springs, etc on the 15. i actually told my husband that I couldnt believe people in the U.S. live like that... it is just appalling out there. there isn't ANYTHING.

I find Google maps and earth absolutely fascinating. I can spend hours "driving" along roads all over the US and what strikes me is the amount of poverty, nay destitution, behind the popular facade.

For some reason I am getting military wife vibe. I checked and there is a base in Barstow about 1.5 hrs away. If a military spouse was missing, would it get reported to the local authorities, or handled by the base? I know this is a long shot, but maybe worth exploring.

I wonder if the pool was there in 1976.

I notice that the Desert Studies Center was "Established in 1976". I wonder what "established" meant. Was this the date of legal foundation, in which case the facilities could have been under construction for a year or so during 1976? Could she have been the girlfriend of one of the men working on the building project? "We've just finished the new pool. Let's go out there at the weekend and we can try it out. Nobody else will be there."

I'm wondering if these could of started in California desert. They finally got some DNA on this Jane Doe found in Twenty Nine Palms at a mine claim she also has red hair. https://identifyus.org/cases/2467 I was also looking at this case in Las Vegas it's "Very Graphic" is it real or a hoax. http://archive.4plebs.org/x/thread/16576951[/QUOTE I read Sarah Tokier went missing from Desert Hot Springs and not Montebello her family also lived in Yucca Valley this is next to Pioneer Town. http://www.zodiackillersite.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=1275&p=13174#p13174 http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?196152-CA-Sharah-Tokier-16-Montebello-1976

Perhaps she was wearing the swimsuit to sit in a Jacuzzi/Hot Tub or maybe she was just wearing it for sunbathing in.

Someone on FB has asked how come she was found that fast and I think that is actually very brilliant question, also not asked here yet either.

It was mentioned here that area where she was found was desolate desert and there was absolutely nothing around there. She was found within 2 - 4 days, and not visible from distance, but wait for it, INSIDE of mine shaft. Remains found in mines are often skeletonized, or found after years or decades. I wonder if we are missing some part of the story.

It would be good to try to search for some old news articles for any extra information.

It's a question I've asked myself in relation to other cases. Given the vast distances in the SW and the extent of arid, remote areas, it seems amazing to me that so many murder victims are found at all, and even more so that so many are found quite quickly after death. Conversely there must be vast numbers who are never found. Is it purely down to chance that some are found and others not, or is there some sort of subtle difference as to how and where some bodies are disposed of compared to others.

It makes one wonder if there have been (and maybe still are) vastly more [serial] killers operating in the region than we imagine even taking into account what we know today about [serial] killers.

Thanks Al Ka for your posts and refreshing everything.
I don't have any image in my head of how a mineshaft would look like, but it seems pretty deep for a family to go in....really amazing that she was found in this desolated place, that deep and covered with trash.....almost to coincidental imo.
