CA - Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao's home raided by FBI June 20, 2024

Early in the morning of Thursday, June 20, 2024, the FBI raided the home of Oakland, CA mayor Sheng Thao. As of now, the reason has not been released but IRS and Postal Service seem to be involved. Four homes in the area were raided this morning.

The FBI also searched another home in the Oakland Hills belonging to Andy Duong, a member of the family that owns Cal Waste Solutions — a recycling firm investigated for campaign contributions to Thao and other elected city officials — according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Mayor of Oakland makes first statements about the raid on her house, that she shares with a partner.

"'I want to be crystal clear: I have done nothing wrong,' Thao said in her opening remarks about the search. 'I can tell you with confidence that this investigation is not about me. I have not been charged with a crime, and I am confident that I will not be charged with a crime because I am innocent.'"
