on it, this thing catches fire from time to time, and we've got random rotting body parts along the tracks coming up regularly. Why would anyone expect any better.

i really don't like that they didn't release the suspect footage from BART earlier. I was hearing he was seen at the concord bart again this morning. would have helped if his face was out there.

It's so sad and frustrating to see what has happened to Bart. It has been more and more dangerous lately. I rode it every day when I went to UC Berkeley back in the dinosaur era. And it was squeaky clean and felt very safe.
My nieces told me recently that they never use it unless they absolutely have to, because there are so many scary people on the train now, and you feel trapped once it is going underneath the tunnels/ very sad.
Watching her poor father is so heartbreaking. He shouldn't have to grieve such a young, beautiful daughter over a meaningless, unnecessary act of evil.

Nia Wilson’s family ‘1,000 percent’ wants death penalty for alleged BART killer

"....Wilson’s mother, Alicia Grayson, told reporters she “most definitely” wants the death penalty for Cowell.
“100 percent … 1,000 percent,” she said.
Wilson’s father, Ansar Muhammed, said the court process is going “too slow” for his family.
“It’s very frustrating,” he said. “Our family has been through a lot of grief this year. … We just want this year to get over with.”
He also said that his daughter’s death is not getting enough media attention, and wants it to be recognized throughout the country....
District Attorney Nancy O’Malley made a rare appearance at one of Cowell’s first court appearances, saying, “The crime is ruthless, a huge overwhelming tragedy for the family.”
Typically, O’Malley makes a decision about whether to seek the death penalty after the preliminary hearing. Because there won’t be one in this case as a result of the indictment, it’s not known when her office will decide....
Moore, Cowell’s attorney, said she submitted a mitigation letter to the district attorney and her committee asking them to consider other factors of her client’s life, such as his history of mental illness, before O’Malley decides whether to seek the death penalty. Moore said Cowell was released from a state mental hospital just 75 days before the attack.
Cowell is expected to enter a plea at his next court date, Dec. 20."

A restraining order was also filed against him in 2015. With 2016 bookings in Alameda County for misdemeanor infractions involving possession of a controlled substance, petty theft, * vandalism (malicious destruction of property).
In 2013, he was convicted of battery in Walnut Creek.
Cowell had just been released on parole in May 2018 (after serving 2 years), after fulfilling his complete prison sentence for robbery.
Cowell faces a potential life sentence if found guilty of any of the charges, and his prior criminal history could lead to an additional 25-to-life sentence under California’s three-strikes law.

The defense lawyer for a transient charged with murder for the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Nia Wilson at the MacArthur BART station in July told a judge Thursday that she thinks her client is mentally incompetent to stand trial.

Alameda County Superior Court Judge James Cramer put the matter over until Dec. 27 so he can review a brief by Assistant District Attorney L.D. Louis, who specializes in mental health cases, about the legal standards that must be met before a defendant is declared mentally incompetent to stand trial.

An Alameda County judge suspended criminal proceedings Thursday for the man accused of fatally stabbing 18-year-old Nia Wilson at an Oakland BART station over the summer, allowing time for doctors to determine whether he’s mentally fit to stand trial.
The judge and attorneys will discuss their findings Feb. 13.
