An Orange County Superior Court judge Friday gutted a sexual assault case against a Newport Beach hand surgeon and his girlfriend who were accused of drugging and assaulting two women, but ordered them to stand trial on drug charges, with the doctor also still facing gun charges.

I can't post the link here, but I highly recommend the podcast OC Swingers about this case. I'm on episode 8 of 13 and it is well done. Looks like the last episode was dropped in April 2022 and I'm not sure they'll do an update on the case. I hope they do.

Wow. I vaguely remember hearing about this case, but didn't follow it as far as I know. I have no idea about the veracity of the allegations. But, wow, what a hot mess.

This is a very strange case. I really wonder if it is a case where the salaciousness of the accusations allowed the headlines to drive the charges.
