Leroy was using other people's identities. I have the autopsy and investigative report; he died from narcotics addiction. The note he had in his pocket regarded a request to have a birth certificate made for Brad Lee Bodie, who was alive and well and in the military. I'm not sure if I should link the reports.
Narcotics addiction is an unusual ‘cause of death’. Was it an overdose, complications from withdrawal, drug induced suicide, heart attack/stroke due to drugs?

The manner of death is listed as natural, I think he had been using drugs but hadn't been at the time, of his death he was just drinking a beer or two.

Nothing to do with white supremacy in the 1970’s. It was more a symbol of rebellion. I had a necklace, they were considered “cool”.

Iron Cross
In the United States, however, the Iron Cross also became one of several Nazi-era symbols adopted by outlaw bikers, more to signify rebellion or to shock than for any white supremacist ideology

I suspect it might have been taken differently in different parts of the country, or by different people. My WWI-veteran grandfather would have shot anybody he saw wearing German military insignia.

But if he was into anything supremacist or neonazi-related, I would expect other symbols as well. Swastikas, death-heads and lightning bolts, eagles holding swastikas, that kind of thing. Alone like this, it's probably as you say just an edgy rebellious symbol.

I had suspected he may have been a biker given the iron cross. I was permitted to make a post in a large Facebook group of bikers. I hope someone may identify him.

I'm curious if you know what name he used when he was arrested?

I contacted the only man I could find with the same complete name as the "Charles" alias, and of the same age, but unfortunately the man does not recognize him. I also messaged family corresponding to the "Brad" alias, and I'm awaiting their reply.

I don’t think he gave his name when he was arrested. Not sure why he was, but given his known drug abuse, it could have been like that

I don’t think he gave a name while arrested and he had no ID on him according to NamUs. Not sure why he was arrested but given his know drug abuse, it could have been related to that

My father would have shot me if he thought I was wearing a German military insignia! It was just a cool popular cross, like the kind everyone was wearing. They sold them in "head shops". There was nothing German about it.

Not in the western state where I grew up, they didn't :D

I’d be very interesting in seeing the reports of you wouldn’t mind sharing. Thanks for acquiring the additional information!

I was just looking at the iron cross and it almost looks like it’s a cover up. If you looks closely on the left of the cross. It looks as though either the letter J or the letter B ( at least to my eyes ) has been incorporated into the cross….. any thoughts?

Personally I also see the Letter J but I really have no idea why or what it means.

The iron cross is a popular symbol in rock/metal music (which he looks like he may have been a fan of). Most notably around that era Lemmy from Hawkwind(late 60s to 1975)/Motorhead (formed in 1975) wore one a lot.

Edit: I believe it was probably used mostly for shock value at the time, because that generation's parents fought in the war.

John Doe's Fingerprints are Available but his DNA and Dental are not, I think that if his DNA could be obtained, perhaps it would be possible to work on his Genealogy to be able to identify him.

Looking back now he did give the name James Allen Chastain. Maybe the J is for James and that is his first name? Just a thought .

I think there was some evidence in the coroners investigative report that James was a just a random name he picked.

Before you come to any conclusions, please hear me out.

Missing Person Kenneth Edward Tank
The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

Unidentified White male going by the alias "Leroy"
The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

I've spent a lot of time over the years trying to figure out who "Leroy" may be, always coming up with very little, and so I began "grasping at straws." Kenneth Edward Tank is someone I've excluded many times because at first glance, they don't look alike, until I increased Kenneth's photo and put it next to Leroy's photo. Focusing your eyes on their chin, to the lips, to the nose and nostrils, and even the eyes (if you can overlook the distortion from the eye glass lenses, and Leroy's raised eyebrows). They look the same.

case-compare.jpg

IMPORTANT NOTES

-Leroy's eyebrows are raised in the photo, and Kenneth's are not.

-A school picture of Kenneth shows that he had styled his hair overtop his forehead which may also be the case in his adult photo, to explain their hairlines. This hairstyle was very common in the 1970s. Here are some examples.

-Kenneth's photo may not have been taken near the time he went missing. At the time he went missing, he weighed as much as 185 pounds which would means he only needed to gain 35 pounds in ~2.5 years to be the same weight as Leroy.

-IF "Leroy" is Kenneth, it may suggest that Kenneth left the bar where he was last seen to pursue a new life, possibly with a female named "Rita," thus, abandoning his wife and two children.

WHAT MATCHES

-Both are close in height.

-Kenneth's age falls within Leroy's estimated age.

-Both have hazel eyes, and brown hair.

-Both are white males.

I've submitted these cases for review. I've also messaged Kenneth's family. If I hear back from them, I'll let you guys know.

Would you mind sharing the reports or where you requested copies from. Thank you.

The documentation is full of names of people who probably won't want their identities out there...
