Also following along on Youtube. Was there any warning at all, had people evacuated ahead of time?
We've known the winds were coming for about a week. I don't think anyone knew how bad it would actually be. How do you fight a force of nature? We now have a second fire in Altadena.
I've always been worried when we have the Santa Anna winds but these winds were off the chart! Add to that the VERY dry conditions we've had it was a pyro's dream. JMO

A fire expert on CNN said the winds haven’t even peaked yet. The worst is still to come.

“Leave Now”: Evacuation Order Issued For Portion Of Santa Monica, Even As Eaton Fire Ignites Across Town Above Altadena – Updated

The extreme winds are forecast to peak between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday.

If the sustained wind breaks 30 to 40 mph, the LA County Fire Chief said air attacks may be unfeasible. With winds like that, the water or retardant just gets dispersed, rendering it ineffective.

I am in SoCal, but not near the Pacific Palisades area. But we’re having strong gusty winds where I am, too.

Gov. Newsome declared a State of Emergency.

Same, it’s like rattling the house a little bit now and then.

It has been 8 months since LA received rain.

These high winds are also dehydrating whatever is left of the vegetation, turning them into kindling.

Santa Ana winds are awful. My mother used to say they made her skin crawl (probably from the dehydration) and make it miserable to try to sleep.

An LA SWAT team was brought in to help evacuate the 99 person nursing home in Altadena. The images of those older folks, some in hospital gowns, lined up in chairs waiting for the ambulances while the wind and smoke whipped their clothes around them and the embers were flying past was awful. The power had also been turned off to avoid downed lines sparking, so the scene was only lit by ember, flames, and the lights of ambulances. I really honor the people that are staying with them to be a familar face and take care of them.

So, the CAL FIRE site is showing 3 currently active incidents:

Palisades Fire
Eaton Fire
Hurst Fire

On my Ring camera neighbor reports, some are posting that they can see the Eaton Fire in the mountains, out in the distance from their home! I can’t see it from mine, though.

Oh! Herat beat me to it.
