An entry for an "ISABELLA OLIVERA-MONTENEGRO" who died on the correct date (Oct 24, 2023) has been added since this afternoon. Place of death is alley, ethnicity is Hispanic, and age is 16, which matches up with the unidentified person. Manner of death is suicide as a result of "COMBINED EFFECTS OF BLUNT FORCE HEAD TRAUMA, NECK COMPRESSION AND SHARP FORCE INJURIES". https://me.lacounty.gov/case-detail/?caseNumber=2023-14532
suicide ? not to be morbid but can someone explain how those injuries would amount to a suicide ? if i remember correctly her case manager was part of the homicide department when she was a doe.
i’m very happy to see her name back. her family does have a donation pool up for funeral costs.
it upsets me that the police did not connect the two considering their dates were less than a week apart and isabella was never entered into namus nor the department’s website.

Neck compression sounds like hanging to me, and sharp force injuries may be more self-harm wounds. I would guess that upon identification, her family provided info to LE that pointed more towards suicide than foul play.

I was thinking it was something involving a vehicle or a fall from a great height just by the extent of the trauma but I'm not an expert in this sort of thing at all.

I am the one that was able to identify Isabella. I posted about the match back in march on reddit. I contacted the medical examiner and so did others with the match, they never followed up. The family found my post randomly while searching her name and pushed law enforcement about the match and they were able to identify her through dental records.

I am absolutely dumbfounded that law enforcement didn’t make this connection for almost two years. She was found minutes from where she went missing from. The body discovery didn’t even make any news. Otherwise her family would’ve seen it and followed up. It’s horrifying.

They’ve ruled her death a suicide but it makes no sense to me. They closed her case within days of making the connection. like 1-2 days.

I live in the area. I’m so upset. I want to make a difference. I feel like this story needs exposure. I feel like the police need to be investigated somehow for dropping the ball on this. Anyone have any advice? I’m just feeling so helpless. Ugh.

yes!! i saw your post on reddit, and the update. i also find it weird that it’s been immediately determined as a suicide considering she was under the homicide department’s care as a doe. it looked like she had lividity on the front of her body so maybe she was facedown? which doesn’t really add up to the blunt force head trauma, neck injuries… i’m a little wary on their callings in this case considering they took two years to even compare the two girls and it took a push from the family for it to finally be checked into.
