The Shasta County Major Crimes Unit says they discovered another child was living with Riley and Amanda during their initial contact with the Royal's back in January.

That child has been placed in protective custody with Shasta County Children's Services.

"You can't just go around killing your kids" Knickerbocker said on Wednesday. It diminishes our society so badly."

the ONLY bright spot is thanks to that welfare check in January, this baby girl's sibling is alive and in a safer place (hopefully)

A mother and father ( Amanda and Riley Royal) were arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 29, for allegedly abusing their two-year-old daughter to death and then unlawfully burying her in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in January 2023. Trial is set for April.

Apparently they lied to police about being home when they were actually there. That's another count against them. Lying to LE when they are investigating a crime.

Riley Royal told a sheriff's detective that he and Amanda Royal "participated in severe forms of discipline" against the child that included striking her with fists, kicking her, burning her with a spatula and withholding food, the sheriff's report says.

He also told detectives he tied the girl's legs together so tight they wounded her, the report says.
