A private investigator working to solve the mystery of a Manteca man's death in September 2001 says he's already close to cracking the case.
"I'd say within the next 30 days we're going to solve the case," said Frank Roman of Sacramento-based FAR Investigations.

Roman said he believes no one has been arrested because of "just some minor glitches in the investigation."

Roman charges a fee for most investigations. However, he said when it comes to unsolved homicides, like the case of Paul Placencia Jr. of Manteca, he works for free.

Placencia died at age 25 from head injuries he suffered outside a Modesto nightclub on Sept. 29, 2001.

He left what was then Club Detour at Kansas and Emerald avenues at closing time. Police said he was among 300 people in the parking lot when several fights broke out.
