Even the VI - who spent weeks on the actual trails - wasn't able to come up with a map, so it's not so easy for some of the rest of us to figure it out.
I opted to tell the story via Outside. Having someone else write was a much easier way to get something on paper. I also lead a yearly run where we go over the route and details in depth to hand off lessons. Unfortunately I’ve never been able to write a detailed piece on it as every time I get stuck figuring out how I want to say the things I’d like to say.

Best I can tell those details were never shared. I happen to think there may be lessons to learn from them, so I am still interested to know.

What lessons? 1) Many people would not consider what he did (or at least what we know) to be very dangerous, certainly not dangerous enough to risk death. More info may be helpful. 2) He was found basically where they searched for him over several days. I think it would interesting if not helpful to know how he wasn't found sooner.
I’ve been wanting to talk more about (1). Tbh I think a podcast is probably the right medium. (2) is mostly the challenge of needing to search such a large area. We were close, so many times.
