Bumping up for John Doe. Maybe we can give this case some attention.
Are there any exclusions listed in NamUs?

While this is an older article on the Hell Hole Reservoir area, it does not appear that much has changed. Remote, difficult to get to, mostly outdoor activities of hiking, fishing, camping. Apparently ~10 miles west of Lake Tahoe, which borders Nevada.

Hell Hole Reservoir a slice of heaven / Lake takes effort to reach, but it is worth the work

I'm surprised that a John Doe turned out to be a missing person in NamUs. I guess determining the race of an unidentified decedent based on skeletal remains is harder than it looks. RIP Peter

Sincere condolences to his relatives.

Age estimate and race were both off, if this was a match... frustrating.

I was a bit hesitant about Mr Flores being JD as Mr Flores was last seen in the water and the remains were located off a trail. Also, there was the different race, but it just seemed too big of a coincidence to ignore. I wonder it this was a situation like Lake Mead with the water receding and uncovering the remains?

[…]
Peter Flores, 50, was last seen around 9 p.m. Thursday night when the small fishing boat he was in with his son and another friend capsized in the frigid waters of the mountain reservoir, located about 65 miles east of Auburn.

The son and friend were able to make it to shore and were found by a boater Friday morning. Flores was believed to have attempted to swim to shore, said Dena Erwin, a sheriff's representative.

Another article here, but under a paywall unfortunately:
