CA - Plane Crash Claims Five Lives - Orange County - 3 Feb 2019

This is really ominous. I'm wondering if it might not have been an accident.

He's an interesting character, that's certain. Since it looks like his plane had some kind of catastrophic breakup before crashing, it seems unlikely he did this on purpose. JMO.

From what I read pilot error can break up a plane and pilot error can be intentional. Witnesses: Plane nosedived from clouds, broke up before crash
From the article Witnesses reported seeing the plane spinning out of control and breaking apart into several pieces before smashing into the water, the report states.

It does seem unusual, in the case of the Yorba Linda crash last Sunday, that the pilot didn't communicate with the airport tower when he seemed to encounter problems. Usually, there's some kind of distress call or request to turn around and land again, etc.

More information about the victims, may they RIP.

The DM article also states the number on the fake Chicago PD badge owned by Pastini came from an officer's badge that was lost in 1978.

Trying to figure out why the pilot had the badge and retirement papers with him? Why not home in a safe?

I wonder now who he really was? Like seriously, this is so strange.

I’m still humming that song by Johnny Rivers....Secret Agent Man.

Not sure what’s going on with the names!

Pilot in deadly California house crash had been disciplined
"Years earlier, Pastini, then using the name Jordan Albert Isaacson, had his license twice suspended by the Federal Aviation Administration, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday, citing records kept by the Library of Congress.

In 1977, Pastini had his pilot's license suspended for 120 days after he flew from Las Vegas to Long Beach, California, in cloudy and icy weather and falsely told an air traffic controller that he had "IFR clearance" that indicated he was capable of flying the route with instruments.

Pastini disregarded airspace rules and posed "a potential threat to himself, his passenger and other users of the system," wrote an administrative law judge, Jerrell R. Davis.

In 1980, Pastini lost his license for 30 days after Davis found that his plane was behind on inspections, carried only an expired temporary registration and was "unairworthy" because of a hydraulic fluid leak from a break and other problems, the Times said."

Was the lost CPD badge issued to Isaacson- has anyone seen that little tidbit?

Pastini was carrying this Chicago police badge when he crashed Sunday. (Orange County Sheriff's Department)
Pilot had been disciplined for dangerous flying, lying years before Yorba Linda crash
"The revelation casts into doubt two decades of interviews Pastini gave with newspapers in Nevada, where he lived and owned restaurants, describing himself as a veteran of the Chicago force.

He recounted to the Reno Gazette-Journal in 1997 a rollicking adolescence in Chicago, marked by rumbles between his Italian clan and the neighborhood Germans. They were all, in his own words, “bad kids.”

“We were a pretty well-organized, greased little group of thugs,” he said.

Despite his rough-and-tumble youth, he told the newspaper, he joined the Chicago police and served for 17 years before retiring in 1986 at the rank of detective sergeant."
When the deli opened in 1991, the Reno Gazette-Journal published a story with the headline, “Ex-cop brings piece of Chicago with him.”

“Rather than nab criminals,” it begins, “former Chicago police officer Tony Pastini has turned in his badge and opened a Reno delicatessen.”

Sounds like he had a whole fake persona. Wonder where he is really from? Considering the badge number he was using was from a badge lost in 1978, he must have created his fake identity sometime after that. Could be he was arrested for some crimes when he was younger, possibly spent time in jail? Sounds like he may have created the new name to regain his FAA certification. Still, a new identity is not easy to do.

Wonder how much his daughters know about his past? Did he marry their mother with his old or new identity? One daughter mentioned he had changed his name.

ETA: Ok, looks like the FAA knew he changed his name and he did so twice, so 3 names.

The Times said the FAA confirmed that Isaacson was Pastini. The agency said he submitted two name changes to the FAA: first in 1991 from Jordan Albert Isaacson to Jordan Ike Aaron, then in 2008 to Antonio Peter Pastini.

BBM.

Hubs says maybe he was in federal witness protection.

Well his restaurant business seemed to thrive and be popular with real cops- did he use the fake id to enhance his status and finances?
Ha ha, maybe he was in a witness protection program?
imo, speculation.

There are people like that, who like to hang around with policemen and ride along, etc. Maybe he thought the fake ID made him seem legit in some way.

I'm finding some news reporting for the name Jordan Ike Aaron in Newspapers.com. Mostly in Reno, Nevada

This one for moving the location of his restaurant called Chicago Express Restaurant:

Here's an article about a guy named Jordan "Ike" Aaron running for Justice of the Peace in Kingman, AZ in 1982. May be someone else.

Maybe he was just one of those guys who was a little shady and liked to impress people.

Pilot In Deadly Yorba Linda Crash Reportedly Had Blemished Flying Record

The 75-year-old man who died when the small plane he was piloting crashed into a Yorba Linda house, killing four people gathered to watch the Super Bowl, had twice been disciplined by authorities for unsafe flying, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

The Federal Aviation Administration suspended the license of Antonio Pastini in 1977 and 1980, according to The Times, which cited records kept by the Library of Congress.

Pastini put in name changes with the FAA – from Jordan Albert Isaacson to Jordan Ike Aaron in 1991 and in 2008 to Antonio Peter Pastini, an FAA spokesman told The Times.

The first suspension – for 120 days – came after he flew in cloudy, icy conditions from Las Vegas to Long Beach and lied about his credentials. The second was because his plane was not up-to date on inspections, had an expired temporary registration and was leaking brake fluid, according to The Times.
