Specific hate toward a specific type of person, not just being a hateful who robs and kicks people.

Treating others with respect is ingrained by parents and becomes so natural that it isn't even thought about as we go about our lives.
He could have been acting out to impress friends but if he was the one doing the kicking his actions seem pretty extreme and over the top and were not needed to impress his friend. IMO

So does that mean that every teen that commits a disrespectful act, or a violent crime, automatically has rotten parents who never attempted to teach them respect and right from wrong?

I interpreted that to mean that this young man, who obviously had no respect' for others, was not taught by his family to be respectful. Maybe I interpreted it incorrectly.

I think this is just one of those examples where a good family puts out a bad product. I believe the Chief and his family are honestly horrified by that monster's actions. He has 2 successful children who seem to be assets to society. Just a bad seed. You have good families with bad kids, and you have bad families with good kids.

I didn't mean that the parents didn't try to teach him respect,but that it is unusual to ignore those teachings as after time they become part of our nature/ingrained.
How many times are we respectful or kind to others and have to think about it before we act.
It becomes part of who we are as people.

The disturbing assault, which took place days after a different attack* on a Sikh man in Central California, prompted calls for a hate crime investigation. It drew about 200 local residents to a rally at the park where the confrontation took place. It also jolted the greater Sikh community across the state, including in Union City, about 60 miles away.

There, at a National Night Out event on Tuesday, Sikh community members told Union City Police Chief Darryl McAllister about what happened and asked how they could help prevent such a “horrific crime” from taking place in their town.

Hours later, the Union City police chief received a phone call from Manteca police. McAllister said he was “disgusted” to learn that the suspect in the attack on the elderly Sikh man was his 18-year-old son.

Natt is still sore from the attack but is recovering at home with his family, a relative of Natt’s, Manjeet Singh Virk, told KCRA. The family is pleased authorities have made arrests in connection with the assault but said the confrontation has shaken everyone. Natt will no longer be going on his early morning walks around the park, Virk said.

Poor man can no longer do the things he loves because he gets attacked by monsters. That is so sad.

Surjit Singh Malhi, 50, said he was putting up campaign signs for local Republican candidates on July 31 when two men started beating him on the head, shoulders and neck. The men vandalized his truck, spray-painting the message "Go back to your country" alongside a white supremacist symbol, he told KOVR.

Authorities are investigating the incident as a hate crime. Malhi was not seriously injured, he said.

White supremacists don't care about someone's political leanings.

And when something is vandalized with a swastika it doesn't mean they're calling anyone else a Nazi. Think about mosques and temples being vandalized and marked with Swastikas. No one is trying to imply Jews and Muslims are "Nazis." It means "Nazis were here."

They didn't do this because they thought he was conservative. This is being investigated as a hate crime because he's Sikh.

"They threw sand in my eyes and then they started hitting me after that, Malhi told ABC News affiliate KXTV. "They were cussing at me saying, 'Go back to your country, you don't belong here.'"

The Stanislaus Sheriff’s office is investigating the ambush as a hate crime.

The assailants also vandalized Malhi’s truck, spray-painting the white supremacist version of a Celtic cross on it, along with the words "go back to ur [sic] country," Sheriff’s Deputy Royjindar Singh told ABC News.

You can bring a horse to water but you can't make him drink. You can try, through modeling, instructing and nurturing, to teach your child to be respectful and kind. But sometimes, that child is cannot be reached. Sometimes they choose drugs and easy money. Sometimes they reject the parents and their lessons.

One of the biggest sacrifices that Law Enforcement Officers make is that of time with their own families. They are often required to work on all holidays, many weekends, lots of overtime. It creates turmoil in the home sometimes. The divorce rate for cops is very high because of the stress and lack of quality time.

By all accounts, this chief is a very good man, a very responsible and sincere community leader and a compassionate family man. He must be devastated to see what horrible deeds his son was capable of doing.

That doesn't change the fact that the police sacrifice much in protecting others. Being a police officer is a very demanding job which many people don't respect until they need help.
