Criminal proceedings against the husband of a Simi Valley woman killed late last year will be delayed for six months, a judge decided Monday.

Ventura County Superior Court Judge Patricia Murphy granted the delay in the preliminary proceedings until Oct. 17 after being told the prosecution and defense attorneys had agreed to it. One of the attorneys is said to be unavailable for several months for undisclosed reasons.

Ali, who spoke to the court over video, agreed to the continuance. He said he understood that the delay would postpone the dates of a preliminary hearing and, if warranted, a trial.

He remains confined to the main county jail in Ventura and is ineligible for release.

“On the witness stand, Ali said he’d contemplated killing Castillo nine months before the murder, after they separated. The night of the incident, he said, he drove to her unlocked apartment and left his trunk open. He said that once the lights in her bathroom were on, he entered, waiting quietly for her to come into the hallway. There, he stabbed her multiple times before putting her body in his car, he told the jury.
The defendant then said that he drove to a remote desert in the Antelope Valley and buried the body, which he returned to sexually assault the next morning before burying again.”

Jury finds man guilty of murdering estranged wife in Simi Valley

A Ventura County jury deliberated just three hours before finding Zarbab Ali guilty of the murder of Rachel Castillo — his estranged wife.

Chris Castillo said. “When she announced she was getting divorced, we stood by her. Maybe I should have stood by her a little better. I can even remember telling her to work through her problems. In hindsight, it saddens me that I said that.”

With all this that has come out at trial, it hammers home that if even your FBI agent dad is telling her to stay with him, you really have no idea what's going on in people's marriages and should trust their instinct to leave.

Forgive my utter nosiness but I'm so grateful to see on sm that Rachel's sister and her husband are indeed raising the two boys, and a fabulous job they seem to be doing.
