How far does he live from Southern California?

I thought he was already in California?

Apparently not.
AFAIK he lives in the Bay Area. He's maybe lining up a private plane, and it might not be so easy for him these days?

I have to think that all these delaying tactics aren't going to win him favors from his fellow inmates. I'm eager to hear whether he tries to shirk the shower-cleaning-newbie-job.

Is this actually happening tomorrow? For realz?

Sentencing hearing on 12/7/22 @ 10am. 12/7/22 Update: Bałwani sentenced to 155 months in prison (12 years and 11 months) & 3 years probation. Balwani will report to prison on 3/16/23. Indictment & court info (Jury selection/trial/jury deliberations) from 4/11/20 thru 3/8/23 reference post #318 here:
https://www.websleuths.com/forums/t...56-theranos-wire-fraud-charges.614821/page-16

3/10/23 Update: Balwani is scheduled to report to prison 3/16/23 unless he can win a reprieve from a federal appeals court in a motion his lawyers say they plan to file. He had been scheduled to report March 15, but was granted an additional day of freedom in another order issued late Thursday by U.S. District Judge Edward Davila. Denied request to remain free on appeal (3/8/23).
3/16/23 Update: Just hours before Balwani was supposed to surrender to authorities, his lawyer filed documents notifying U.S. District Judge Edward Davila that he wouldn't be doing so. The notice cited a last-minute appeal of a recent Davila ruling rejecting Balwani's request to remain free while trying to overturn his conviction on 12 counts of fraud & conspiracy. The Wednesday appeal of Davila's March 9 ruling triggered an automatic stay of his prison reporting date, which had been set for 2pm, Thursday, 3/16/23. That's because Balwani has been free on bail since a jury convicted him last July, triggering a clause that allows him to remain free on bail until the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals weighs in on Davila's ruling issued last week, according to the notice filed by Balwani's attorney, Jeffrey Coopersmith. It's unclear how long it will be before the appeals court deals with the ruling. The change means Balwani will be staying in the Terminal Island prison located in San Pedro, California, located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) from downtown Los Angeles.
4/7/23 Update: Balwani will be heading to prison later this month after an appeals court rejected his bid to remain free while he contests his conviction for carrying out a blood-testing hoax with his former boss & lover, Elizabeth Holmes. The three judges on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals concluded Balwani hadn’t provided enough compelling evidence to convince them that his conviction is likely to be overturned. After the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision refusing Balwani’s request, U.S District Judge Edward Davila on Friday ordered him to start his nearly 13-year prison sentence on 4/20/23. One of Balwani’s lawyers had filed a motion late Thursday seeking nearly two weeks to give Balwani time to make travel arrangements & make other preparations for a trip that will send him to a federal prison in Southern California. Balwani will serve his sentence in a prison near a harbor in San Pedro, California, located about 30 miles (50 kilometers) from downtown Los Angeles.
*Elizabeth A. Holmes (34/now 38) (CEO of Theranos) – Trial began on 9/8/21 & ended 1/3/22 with a verdict of guilty on 4 counts of 11. Sentencing hearing was to be on 10/17/22 but was delayed with motions for new trial Filed (5/27/22) for dismissal of all charges. All 3 motions for dismissal/new trial-denied. Sentenced on 11/18/22 to 11.25 years (135 months) in prison & 3 years supervised release. Motions hearing for miscellaneous relief on 3/17/23. The judge set a surrender date for 4/27/23. The Court makes the following recommendation: The Defendant be designated to the Federal Prison Camp at Bryan, Texas. Judge’s ruling will be early April. 4/10/23: Judge Davila denied appeal to stay out of prison while on appeal. Ordered to surrender on 4/27/23.

2 pm PT? This is gonna call for moment-to-moment updates, a fully operational gloat meter, and a large bag of popcorn. Is this really finally happening?

Get a good night's sleep, and hopefully by the time you wake up, he'll be spending the night in prison.

From the above article: As of 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Balwani was still not in custody, according to Bureau of Prisons inmate records.
He's cutting it awfully close! Go get a US Marshall or a bounty hunter to go get him.

It's now 2:30PMPST. No more updates yet that I can find to see if he made his 2:00 deadline. Can anyone check Vinelink?

Okay he's finally there! Cut it to the wire...
Balwani remained out of custody throughout his trial. But his freedom vanished Thursday when he reported to prison. Elizabeth Holmes’ ex-boyfriend begins serving prison sentence

“We can confirm, Ramesh Balwani, is in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Terminal Island in San Pedro, California,” Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson Donald Murphy told KRON4.

He's going to federal prison so he won't show on Vinelink. I recall he was already in the BPO system from his last report date but was not being reported in custody. I'll search and edit if I locate him.

“Mr Balwani turned himself in… smoothly without incident,” Jeffrey Coopersmith, Balwani’s attorney, said in an email to CNN on Thursday. “We will continue to fight for him because we do not believe that he received a fair trial.”

Balwani’s arrival into custody marks an end to a years-long saga which saw him go from serving as a top executive at a high-flying Silicon Valley company to being one of the rare tech executives convicted for fraud.

I love that we have the clarity of a BOP statement, a gesture not accorded too many other inmates. This is a rare time when I've felt a prisoner's high profile is an advantage to someone other than himself.

Bye bye Rolex and sayonara custom-tailored suits. Now for the mugshot with the freshly de-loused look and the prison togs...
