A very good find. From more searching he was found guilty in the second degree. Cant find how long he spent, or even if he went to a juvenile facility. Could even possibly tie in with the people Tom was associating with at the time. Will try to keep looking.

Like others I have not found how long Thomas Gouveia spent locked up, or where (juvenile, mental institution or other), but a report on the ordering of a psychiatric evaluation said that the choice for the judge was between a 5 to 20 sentence or a mental institution. If he got the former and served the minimum he would have got out a short while before Randy McBee vanished. Probably coincidence but you assume that LE would have checked. However, Randy McBee seems to have been a fairly minor witness in the case and, if Gouveia was seeking retribution, you would have had several other witnesses higher up the target list.

According to the 'California Marriage Index', a 'Thomas T Gouveia' was married in Sam Francisco, in 1972. If this is the same man, it looks like he only served the shorter part of his sentence which, of course, may not be relevant to whatever happened to Randy.
