Judd was last seen on July 25, 2021, on a day hike from his camp, near Lower Merced Pass Lake, to Red Peak Pass. He is 72 years old and was reportedly wearing blue clothing. Judd is 5 ft 11 in and 150 pounds with brown eyes, short graying hair, and a beard.

Terrible that he WAS hiking with a partner yet still got lost. I sure hope they can locate him before it’s too late. I wonder if he has a phone with him?

Another missing hiker... Assuming more details forthcoming.

Avid hiker here... Don't understand getting separated from your hiking partner. Why have a partner if you're going to go off in different directions, or walk away from your partner for long enough for one to "get lost".

Rangers at Yosemite National Park have scaled back on the search for a hiker who has been missing since July 25.

That means the search will continue, but a smaller number of people will be assigned to the effort. “Basically, we never ‘end’ a search until there is a resolution,” Gediman said, whether a person is found alive or dead. “However, as time goes on with a search, we have to evaluate the time of the search, what has been accomplished, resources allocated, etc.”

Gediman said that a day pack was found, along with a few other clues that are being investigated by rangers.

Not that it is a huge difference, but the linked article gives his age as 69, not 72 as it states in the title.

I noticed it is given as both 69 and 72 in captions and the linked article and as 70 in another article linked above. As you said, it’s not a huge range and it’s not relevant to finding him, but his age should be easy to verify.

Richard Judd, 72, went missing on a day hike from Lower Merced Pass Lake to Red Peak Pass on July 25, 2021. He is 5-foot-11 with brown eyes and gray hair and a beard. He reportedly used white trekking poles and a navy blue daypack and was wearing a dark blue shirt and gray hiking pants when he went missing.

These 13 hikers left from Yosemite and were never seen again
