She said she was uncomfortable talking about anyone else. I can understand that but if there is any chance that is Anna, she could be a huge help.

Julie,

Please take a minute and read about another case that we are working on here. This is the thread http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37112
Some of us here believe that the little girls that we just showed you pictures of are the same little girl, Anna Christian Waters.
That little girl is the daughter of 2 people who were in synanon for mutiple years. Please read my other responses. I believe the girl in the picture was born in synanon.

Do you ever remember a man by the name of George Waters. He was a doctor. Or a man named George Brody. Here are there pictures.

Julie,

I am so sorry that we bombarded you with questions. We appreciate your being here and taking the time to help us understand life at Synanon. I'm sorry about your illness, that must be very hard for you.

How did they find all of you so quickly? And how did they get you to return with them? Was that part of the brute force (some army name I think) that they were utilizing at that point? Not exactly the happy community they tried to make everyone believe they were.
here is a section from my autobiography that explains this in detail:

The night before New Years, we held a gigantic cop out. I got accused of having sex with most of the Punk Squad boys. I refused to cop out but for some reason the boys did. On New Years at Midnight, I was sweeping floors in Barn 1, instead of at the big New Years Eve party. In 2 days I would be 14.

The next day, Lori Rickman and Vicky Marler (who had copped out to something) and I worked all day in the pot sink and the dish sink. It was very boring and incredibly hard work. At about five PM, I talked to Lori and said that I was thinking of running away the next day on my birthday. We asked Vicky if she wanted to go with us. She did. We made our plans which consisted of stealing the warmest of clothes from all the people in our tent.

While working in the pot sink, the rest of the punk squad was preparing for a major presentation. I remember looking out the window as they practiced their marching routines. Already, I knew I no longer belonged. They were all bald, boys and girls, standing in perfect formation, at attention. They all had scarves around their neck of the same color and had on similar uniforms. The resemblance to a military formation was uncanny but then wasn’t that what we were trying to do. For whatever reason, that vision of them standing there remains with me today.

Then three hours after lights out, we would split. At 12:00, we slipped past the Supersquad tent and up the pasture. (We found out that a member of the Supersquad also split that night but we never ran into him and he got away. Because he had earlier copped out to being part of a sex event, the adults thought we left together at first.)

We found the barbed wire pushed down and stepped over it and began our 20 mile walk to Petaluma. From there we really weren’t sure where we were going. We got caught in some bushes at one point and we really didn’t know which way we should go. It turned out we were actually on a hill and caught in the top part of a huge tree which was next to the hill. We had no flash light and were dependent on the moonlight. We almost turned back but I refused and said I was prepared to go on myself. We sat there and then finally found a way out. We walked all the way and ran some of it. My feet were very swollen when we got to Petaluma. It was a fun walk though. They taught me about cigarettes after we found some butts and matches on the road into Petaluma.

We went to a gas station and changed. Then, they told me what we would have to do. Lori Rickman and Vicki Marler had been in the punk squad with me and had been probated to Synanon through probation officers, probably for drug problems. We had no money and nowhere to stay. We were hungry and tired. They said if we turned ourselves in to the police that we would be let go in a week and go back to our parents. I figured my father would be contacted and not my mother.

We slept in the jail cell. Three hours later, I was told that my mother was there to take me back to Synanon. So, it had all been for nothing. She came with Andre James. They asked me if I wanted to go back to Synanon. I wish I had said no, but I didn’t know what to do and was very scared. I went back with them. They made me sit in the trunk part of the van during the drive back to the Ranch.

I was placed on the bench for about nine hours. I was not allowed to sleep. That night, they had public beatings in front of 400 people. I didn’t care. I was not the only one. Then, a list of 8 other names was called. We were placed on a contract. We were made to wear large gas station uniforms as humility. We had three hours of sleep where they put us in the aerobic room. We worked cleaning feces in the pig pen, sweeping cob webs from the barns and dusting the white washed fences. The contract lasted a week. Several people copped out to planning to run away. One of the others on the contract had approached me to run away but when I admitted it to the adults, I was told I was lying. She left several weeks later anyway. She had been moved as an adult (age 16) to the San Francisco facility and split.

I was teased for days for running away right to the police station. Since we never met up with the other boy who split the same night, I assume he ran away and ended up on Hwy. 1, from which it would have been a relatively easy hitchhiking trip directly over the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco. We, on the other hand, had never been past the Bay facility on Hwy. 1 and I had no idea that this was a major thoroughfare.

Much later, in the early 80’s, I took a trip there with my husband and drove up and down Hwy. 1 through some beautiful areas that I had never seen. All we ever saw of civilization was when being driven in jitneys to the bay, we saw a large building that said Marshall Inn. (I found out later this was a tavern/bar and was very popular with the local non-Synanon community.) Right after that was a sign that read Marshall, Population 50. The Synanon facilities were obviously not included in the population counts.

Julie, I'm so sorry to hear about your progressive MS. I have a friend who has that, and it's a very tough disease. Stress really aggravates her condition, too. Always keep your own health paramount. We are just like a bunch of school kids tonight after having so many questions about Rose and Synanon for so long, so please ignore us if we get a bit overwhelming. We aren't like that all the time! And it just so happened that we had another case here on Websleuths where we wondered if the girl in question (Anna Waters) was in Synanon.

Shadow, so that we don't duplicate posts again, why don't you post on the Anna Waters thread that it's been decided that this is not Anna... that it's a girl who was born at Synanon.

Oh, Julie, what a sad little ending to your runaway story... picked up by your mom and brought back. That's what worries me about Rose... she had no money and nowhere to run to either. She was young and vulnerable and pretty... and only knew she wanted out of there, but didn't have a real plan in place to accomplish that goal. I assume she lived on the streets... but wish with all my heart we knew what happened to her after February of 1973.

Christine, just to make sure it's not missed (because things are moving very quickly tonight), I'm reposting your request:

OK ya'll, off subject, Julie has spent hours researchiing for us, emailing me, tons of stuff, now it is OUR turn.....off subject.....we need to get an MS thread going in Jury Room or Parking Lot and all get to researching......Julie is really smart, has all kindsa degrees, ect, and she can telly ou all about herself, but right now, lets help her as she has us....she spends alot of time researching MS....if someone could start a thread somewhere, and link us all to it, give Julie a chance to state on this thread where she is in research and maybe we can help her???????
Julie, I'm a decent researcher... some of the others are phenomenal.... but I'm dogged and tenacious, so that makes up for some of it. But, if you will tell me what areas you need research done in, or map out a plan for us, I think we could all pitch in and help. I'd be more than glad to do anything I can.

At the Synanon website(or I should say where you resgister to enter the website) I saw this and thought it peculiar:

First name(s) you used when you were in Synanon:

Last name(s) you used when you were in Synanon:

Did some people change there names upon entering synanon?
I just thought the wording is strange.

I posted this earlier but we were posting so fast that I think that it got lost in the shuffle. Julie, could you please answer this one last question. I promise no more tonight from me.
