CA CA - Rose Cole, 16, Oakland, 1972 - #2

Claire was contacted by Rose's SIL. She only remembered receiving one letter from Rose when she was at the bus station, after her purse was taken. I frankly don't understand how Rose could have wrote this letter with no money,...did she ask the ticket counter lady for paper, envelope, pen and a stamp to write this letter to Claire?...(that always bothered me) You can read more about Claire on the first Rose thread, around page 17 starting with post #402

As far as I know, no one has ever been able to pin down who Ruth actually was. All a mystery.

As far as the Peoples Temple, that was an idea I got after reading about people who went from the PT to the Synanon (or vise versa) during the 70's. I think the Picture of the Christine girl in PT looks a lot like Rose too, so much that I spent many weeks corresponding with ex-members, (survivors of Guyana Jonestown). I have to say that the people I talk to are VERY protective of PT even to this day. I have a feeling they are keeping to themselves out of sheer fear of the consequences of telling what they know. Here is are a few excerpt I received from a PT survivor to give you a little understanding how difficult researching this cult can be.

Now this one is what interested me the most. I was inquiring about the family as a Whole, but this response never even mentioned Christine as part of the family. (maybe because she really wasn't...I have pictures of the entire family and she looks nothing like the other....who where very much older than her)

I Did find Christines Birth records and it says she was born in a different city than what her passport said.

Thanks for the response, IW.
I think this whole thing is a mess. I can't believe that a judge would take a child and send them 1/2 way across the states to receive treatment and even more unbelievable is the fact that her dad just wanted everyone to forget about her. That sounds awfully suspicious to me.
Have we had any luck in finding out whether or not Rose actually came back for the court hearing? I would be very interested in that info.....I have a wierd feeling about her dad. Any father that I have known would move the Heavens and earth to find or help their daughter's in way that is possible.
I too find it odd that she was able to write to Claire with no money or supplies.
I would like to offer my assistance in any way that I can help. THis story has just captured my heart, much like Laci did. And to read this poor woman's letters and to know that she may still be out there suffering is just unimaginable to me.Let me know if you or any of the others need help in research.

I found this site called Linkedin. There are some Rose Cole's listed here. One in San Francisco:
http://www.linkedin.com/pub/dir/Rose/Cole?trk=ppro_find_others

I posted this on the possible matches thread but I will post it here too. I was contacted by a reporter that is interested in doing a story on Rose Cole. He contacted me because he was given my name by Sgt Hosmer of the Michigan State Police. I have been trying to get them to add Rose to their missing persons list. The Sgt told the reporter he thought Rose's disappearance would make a good news story.

He is going all out to find out about the court sending Rose to CA. He was in disbelief.

Fantastic! Please stay on this! I am still trying to work with getting Rose national attention...things have been in a stall.

I think getting her story and pics out there may bring us more information!

I have emailed Isabella a couple of times I wonder why she hasn't been here??

I am going to nag my 'friend' again about getting Rose on major news network shows, she has been having a few surgeries and I am trying not to bug her while she is recovering, I pray she is getting well and close to being able to help us find Rose again!

Itsreenw,
You made my day when I read this. Fantastic! Thank you so much for all that you do.

This is so fantastic, great work people! I have been merely a lurker here, as I devote my time to other cases, and try not to take on too much, but I have always wondered when they might exume and get some press for the mass Oakland grave...I wish you all the best of luck with this, and I hope Rose is found!!! Blessings

Good luck with the story. I hope Rose is found.

Yannette emailed me this evening. She cc:d me a copy of the email she sent to Ken Palmer, the reporter.

She gave him her #s and the best times to contact her.

Ken also emailed me and said he is requesting microfilm of Rose's court docs. He was also interested in Jim Borich (the uncle that got Jesse Joseph's money when he died.)

He is going to email me when the article is ready.

Shadow205 started a thread on Flinttalk.com. I thought these would be good resources from one of the posters:

I've been reading the threads about Rose on Websleuths and looking at the
links you've posted with pictures and letters. Have you given any thought to
researching Synanon records for information that might be helpful, such as
Rose's social security number, physical description, case numbers, etc.?

See the sidebar on this link for detailed archive information:

If you want to make inquiry about Emerson Junior High and Northern High
School, you could contact the Flint School District, 923 E. Kearsley St., Flint,
MI 48503; general information (810) 760-1000; or online at
http://www.flintschools.org for other contact information.
I doubt they'll be of any help but it won't hurt to try.

Probate Court juvenile records are not available to the public.

Re the Probate Court deceased estate you were interested in, Ronald J.
Brewer, the attorney who handled the estate, passed away on Feb. 2, 2002.
His office was in Clio, and perhaps someone there would know the
disposition of his closed files and be able to help you. 108 N. Mill St., Clio,
MI 48420; phone (810) 686-0270. The two addresses shown for Borich on
the probate estate record had to have been alternate addresses, i.e.,
summer/winter, or something similar.

You work hard to make a dent in an otherwise indestructable item... It's great to see it when you do! You did a great job and I cannot wait to read this article and to find out all that this reporter manages to uncover!

Thanks so much for the kind words:blowkiss:

Still trying to get Rose on the Michigan State Police Missing Persons site. That's my goal. Not sure why Sgt Hosmer hasn't added her.

What's the hold up? Do you need help with this?

I spoke to Isabella via tele last night, itsreenw she HAS talked to the reporter you spoke of

I also gave her the # for the producer who says she is ready to move forward but needs to now speak w/family. Isabella said she will now take over with producers....keep them in your prayers.

ALSO..someone had asked about Pose....he has NOT been found.

Should we start a separate thread and see what we can do? One of you mentioned maybe Pose and Rose are together, that theory is a possibility....anything is a possibility!

There have been a couple of us questioning Pose's whereabouts. I think I sent you a PM about the possibility of Pose & Rose living together or somewhere near each other. According to Zaba Search, Pose was living in Irving TX in 2001...BUT, I put my maiden name in Zaba Search and it showed me living in an apt I moved out of in 1988 when I married my husband. It was stated as being recorded in 2001. I had an extremely unusual maiden name, so I am quite sure that another person with the exact same name , (and birth month and year) did not live in the exact apt in 2001.

SOOOO, my point is, Pose could have moved from that address as far back as 1988. Also, I did a reverse address look up of the address and it appears that Someone named Rosalyn Turner lives there now....(born Sept 1961) She appears to have changed her middle initial several times over the years from past address I found for her. I did a Zillow search of the property and it appears to be a duplex/triplex that just recently traded ownership. Seems like an okay part of town less than a block away from a large school.

Checked Ancestry...only one listing for Pose at the Irving address. I have a Phone Number for Rosalyn...anyone want to call it???

Don't know what the holdup is. I will email you the contact info to the person responsible for adding the names. Maybe you will have better luck than me. It has been a while since I last made contact with the Michigan State Police. Can't remember what the problem was to be honest with you. I know I got frustrated and had to step back for a bit.

Audio of Ken Palmer being interviewed about Rose's case. Ken Palmer is the reporter that contacted me about Rose.
I spoke to Sgt Hosmer of the Michigan State Police about adding Rose to their Cold Case/Missing Persons list. He then contacted Ken Palmer, a local reporter and suggested he contact me to find more out about Rose.

http://blog.mlive.com/flintjournal/extra/2007/09/behind_the_story_mystery_of_rose_cole.html

NOTE:
Want to explain, the only reason I am being quoted in the article is that my name and contact info was given to the reporter by the Michigan State Police. I had contacted them about having Rose added to their missing persons list.
Ken Palmer emailed/called me so I answered his questions to the best of my ability and forwarded his info to Yannette. Since we hadn't heard from Yannette, I thought I'd tell him as much as I could in case he wasn't able to speak to Yannette personally. Wanted to take advantage of the media attention while we had it.

Not trying to take credit for something I didn't do. HoT originally brought the case to light. Much Kudos to HoT!!

Great stories! My only wish is that they would have mentioned Pose too... maybe someone would have recognized his name and brought him forth too...

Great work! FYI, Yannette said they did call her and she spoke with them (I think it was only a day or 2 before I posted I had talked with her).....wonder if it was someone else?

Doesn't matter anyway! This is was Rose needs, exposure! Maybe is was someone else and that will be another way to get her name and pics out there!

Thank you itsreenw, for everything you do!

I have goosebumps as I type this. I was at a family gathering earlier. My sister in law was asking about the cases I am researching and my adoption searches, etc... I was about to tell her about Rose and I started out by saying "I don't know if you've ever heard of Synanon..."

She replied with "I know all about Synanon, my friend Anthony went missing from there when we were about 16"

Her parents and Anthony's parents were good friends. Anthony's family moved in with my sis-in-laws family in their San Francisco home for awhile in the 70's. She said he didn't have a drug or alcohol problem. His mother, Joanna, had mental problems and was committed to Napa State Hospital. He and his father, Caesar continued to live with them while his mom was in the state hospital. She said she had no idea what prompted him to enter Synanon. He, alone, went to Synanon and was never seen again. The parents didn't give permission for him to be there.

She couldn't recall the family's surname. She is going to ask her father for more details tonight. I think I should start a thread for Anthony, too.

I believe the judge in Flint is lying through his teeth. It just doesn't make sense for Rose to have been the only person sent to Synanon from the Gennessee County courts.
