Local to me.
Hoping more details will come out soon. Especially WHY...
We may not ever have an answer to "why", other than a 20 year old who wanted to experience randomly killing some beautiful kids.
This article confirms he had a ticket to this showing and an enhancement charge has been added for "lying in wait".

"Officials say it appears the deadly shooting was unprovoked, and there was no indication he knew the victims. Authorities also said no one involved in the crime had gang affiliations."

Dad restrained as he confronts suspect in fatal shooting daughter in movie theater: 'Look at me!'

The father of an 18-year-old woman who was killed in a movie theater shooting in California confronted the accused shooter during a court appearance.

"Look at me. Look at me!" yelled Dave Goodrich at 20-year-old Joseph Jimenez at the Riverside Hall of Justice on Friday.

"That was my daughter," he continued, as he began tearing up. Several people had to hold the grieving father back at one point during the confrontation, Fox 11 reported.

Jimenez was arrested on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and robbery on Tuesday after the fatal shooting during a screening of "The Forever Purge" at The Crossings Mall Monday evening in Corona.

Rylee Goodrich was in the theater on a first date with social media influencer 19-year-old Anthony Barajas. She died on the scene, while Barajas was taken to a hospital and is on life support.

Oh no! I'd been checking on his status hoping he would somehow live. Just horrible.
The killer's photo is just chilling. What a terrible person. Anyone who lies in wait to kill for the sake of killing is nothing short of evil.
That "lying in wait" charge is the enhancement that qualifies him for the death penalty, which in reality, means he will probably spend the rest of his life on death row.
He's only 20 so it's a long time for him.

Here's a list of those awaiting execution in California. So many of them were sentenced before 1990 and are no closer to their execution date than when they arrived.

Just one name I could mention. Ricardo Rene Sanders. Robbed a Bob's Big Boy Restaurant at closing time in 1980, and with another man herded customers and employees into a large walk-in refrigerator, opening fire on them with shotguns, killing four and injuring many others. Sentenced to death in 1982 and STILL THERE, almost 40 years later. A scandal!

That's California whenever it comes to the death penalty. It was voted on in 2016 and the vote by the people was to keep it yet the governor decided to put a moratorium on while he was in office. It's a fight that will most likely never have a full ending. In the cases of people who were actually executed, it was an average of over 25 years from sentencing to execution.

So did this man lie in wait or come to the theater planning to execute people?

Friends of California movie theater shooting suspect believed he had gun, snuck out of cinema, detective says

Pretty interesting. Seems they tracked him down through a friend who bought four tickets.

"The suspect charged with opening fire on two people on a date inside a California movie theater was accompanied by three friends who snuck out of the cinema over fears that he brought a gun, according to local reports."

"Halfway through the movie, Joseph left and returned with a bag which he told them he had a ‘strap’ in the bag. Witnesses believed this to be a handgun," the declaration said, the newspaper reported. "Witnesses said Joseph was mumbling and talking to himself which made them uncomfortable. Witnesses said they needed to use the restroom, however, they left the theater leaving Joseph behind."

And they didn't warn employees if the potential threat

my question is did they report when they heard of the shooting? also, since 6 tickets were purchased, was it only Rylee and Anthony, the suspect, and his 3 friends? was he planning to shoot his friends? this is weird.

The killer, his 3 friends, and Rylee & Anthony were the only 6 people in the theater. Halfway through, the killer left and returned to the theater with something in a bag. He was muttering to himself and the friends became afraid he had a gun so they left, leaving the victims alone in the theater with the killer. The killer supposedly was diagnosed with schizophrenia 8 months ago and recently stopped taking his medication. He said voices in his head were telling him his friends & family would be killed and that killing Rylee & Anthony would somehow protect his loved ones. He had been sitting in the back of the theater but approached the victims from behind, shooting Anthony first, then Rylee. His friends saw him from the parking lot racing away at a high speed. When they heard of the murder they reported it to the police. The killer must have murdered A&R very soon after the friends left, since the friends still hadn't even left the parking lot of the theater by the time the killer fled the scene of the crime.

Those friends should have immediately reported that their friend had a gun and was acting suspicious! Instead they left two innocent victims alone with a crazy person with a gun. What were they thinking?

So he was schizophrenic and thinking that?

I don't know what they were thinking but unfortunately, now they're going to have that guilt hanging over them for a long time

If he has a schizophrenia diagnosis, how did he get a gun? Did the gun belong to his parents? His parents need to be held accountable for not keeping their gun in a secured place where their mentally ill son could not access it.

****
Edited to add: After some research I have discovered that he could have legally gotten a gun despite his serious mental illness. So looks like this killer and whoever provided him access to that gun will not suffer any consequences. I hope the parents file a civil suit and win, because it looks like everyone will get off scot free in a criminal court.

Ca. Welf. & Inst. Code § 8100.

Ca. Welf. & Inst. Code § 8103.

No person who has been adjudicated by a court of any state to be a danger to others as a result of a mental disorder or mental illness shall purchase or receive, or attempt to purchase or receive, or have in his or her possession, custody, or control a firearm or any other deadly weapon unless there has been issued to the person a certificate by the court of adjudication upon release from treatment or at a later date stating that the person may possess a firearm or any other deadly weapon without endangering others, and the person has not, subsequent to the issuance of the certificate, again bee adjudicated by a court to be a danger to others as a result of a mental disorder or mental illness.

Jimenez has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Schwartz scheduled a post-preliminary hearing arraignment for Oct. 21 and ordered that Jimenez remain held without bail at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
