Identified! CA - Sacramento, WhtFem UP2382, 45-60, living photo, alias names, Sep'91 - Dorothy A. Sandusky

Interesting. Never heard of it. It bothers me that there is still a big difference between the height mentioned in the Namus file and on the Sacramento coroner's file (5'11 and 5'1 1/2.

I did send an email to the Namus contact, asking attention for the discrepancy in both files and suggested Gloria Faye Farber as a possible match.
That's brilliant, thank you for doing that! Fingers crossed we get good news.

The jaw lines don’t match. The lady on the right has a very straight cheek line and the lady on the left curves round to the chin. Much more rounded on the left. Jmo.

I see what you are saying.
I put that down to the fact that the lady on the left is smiling, and has her head tilted.

Hopefully we will find out soon.

28th September 1991 article:

Brief description (as per rules):
Articles reporting on the homicide of the homeless lady known as Amanda Defore, who was found on 22nd September 1991.

I have not yet found any reports of any arrests or convictions in her case.

As per info on the Sacramento Coroner's office page, already linked to this thread, here is a street view image from February 2020 of parking garage (multi-storey car park) at 3 and L street where this lady was found. Note: the trees on the left hand side have since been removed.

From the articles I have linked above, I think we can safely say she was definitely 5'11".

I hope you get a reply soon.

Thank you @othram and all others involved.

I think I found a picture of her in the John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School, 1952. Is is alright to post it here?
I have no idea if it's okay based on WS rules, but @othram might be interested to know about a potential photo that isn't a mugshot for a psych hospital, even if it's a juvenile era one. They seem to like using photos that are more intimate, humanising ones if they can on their case pages. It'd be a nice addition.

I messaged them, maybe they have to discuss first with family.

Her niece talked about her aunt Dot on Reddit a few months back.

Dot was a very intelligent lady, described as the smartest in her family. Unfortunately, she battled severe mental illness throughout her life. By all accounts, she just left one day and no one ever saw her again, but her family never stopped searching for her.

Below is a sketch of a man who was seen with her hours before her body was found. A friend of Dot's who was on scene back in 1991 told investigators that he was confident this individual had killed her. Her cause of death was due to strangulation.

I found a few as well linked to her Ancestry profile - very clearly the same woman.

This has made my day! You've got your name back Dorothy!!!

From recent research, reddit, ancestry etc I too had worked out it was Dorothy, but to see it here and have it confirmed by Othram is tremendous. Thank you so much @othram and I want to send my condolences to Dorothy's family. Let's hope they now find the person responsible.

I agree it would be great to see a pic of her here in happier times.

Dear Dorothy, my birthday twin, may you rest in peace. You will not be forgotten!

Hopefully Dorothy’s family will allow Othram to use a photo (her graduation photo is a particularly lovely one) and maybe one day they will allow her story to be told in an appropriate and respectful way; obviously these are their decisions to make.

It is truly wonderful that thanks to @othram and their amazing work Dorothy has got her name back. Inevitably, the release of her name will be very difficult for her family, at what is already a devastating time for them. They remain in my thoughts.

How mental ill health is treated, and society's understanding and acknowledgement of it, has certainly come on in leaps and bounds over the years, though there will always be room for improvement. From experience, growing up in the 70s and 80s, it wasn't very good at all. For older generations - people like Dorothy - it must have been even worse. Those of us who are lucky enough to have access to treatment and support today are by comparison very fortunate indeed.

Hopefully her NAMUS page will be removed soon. This did cause me some confusion previously about whether or not she had been identified, and I have learned a lot from following this case, but that is not important. It is Dorothy, and her life and death that matter here.

Rest peacefully Dorothy.

After 33 years, "Amanda Defore" is Identified

Wow, I feel so much sadness for this woman... And she got murdered, wow. I don't know why that surprised me but it strangely did
