Search Continues for San Ramon Man Missing in the Sierra

He was hiking at Ice House Reservoir, located 78 miles from Sacramento, when he inadvertently split from the group he was with.

He called his friends after he became lost from a hill that overlooks the reservoir, but his phone battery was low and cell reception was patchy.

His friends promptly called the county sheriff’s office to report him missing.

Since then, a search group equipped with helicopters and drones have attempted to locate Emadi.

Footprints found near the reservoir’s Strawberry Point matched the sneakers Emadi was wearing. Another sign emerged when more footprints were found more than a mile away.

San Ramon Family Desperately Awaiting News Of Father Lost In Sierra

Search teams aided by helicopters and drones have been combing through the area since July 9th. Footprints were found near Strawberry Point and identified as being made by the Costco-brand sneakers Saeed was wearing, Zhila Emadi said.

The family said they remain hopeful because their father is an experienced hiker in the Tahoe area.

Another sign emerged when more footprints were found more than a mile away. Emadi’s family is optimistic, saying the presence of natural springs of clean water nearby could keep a hiker alive for an extended period.

Shoeprint Brings Hope Missing Hiker Saeed Emadi Is Surviving In El Dorado National Forest
search crews believe they found a print of his father’s shoe print four days ago. The shoe print was located about a mile from where Saeed Emadi was last seen.

“My dad buys everything at Costco, so we contacted Costco for any shoes he had bought in the last year,” Bijan Emadi said. “We were able to send that to the search and rescue team and they were able to determine a match to the shoeprint pretty quickly.”

The family was initially hopeful the match would lead to a rescue. Days later the painful wait continues.

The Saeed Emadi disappearance at Strawberry point — StrangeOutdoors.com

He was camping with friends at the Ice House Reservoir off Highway 50 when he went for a hike near Strawberry Point, east of Sacramento in California, with them.
Ice House Campground is located next to the boat launch ramp on the northwest shore of Ice House Reservoir. This is in the Crystal Basin area of Eldorado National Forest.

According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Saeed became separated from his hiking partners while crossing the southern fork of Silver Creek. He called his friends with his cell phone at about 3:30 pm on July 8 after becoming separated, according to the sheriff’s office. He told them he was on a hill near a road and that the lake was below him. The friends responded by calling the authorities. That's the last anyone heard from him as there were no further cell phone calls and he did not respond.

The sheriff’s office has reduced the search to a limited, on-going one after the agency used personnel to search 24 hours a day for about the first 10 days that Emadi was missing.

Awful story I wish they could find him. Always have your phone charged an an external battery especially when you plan to be away from power for a few hours.

There are tons of news articles on his disappearance however there’s nothing additional or new being reported. I believe the latest article I came across was from early to mid August.

How sad. Let's hope for a "miracle" outcome soon. I wonder how feasible it would be to keep searching with drones?

Details of Disappearance
Emadi was last seen near the Ice House Reservoir in El Dorado County, California on July 8, 2020. He was hiking when he became separated from his hiking companions after he crossed Silver Creek near Strawberry Point and was unable to turn back. He continued around the lake, and at 3:30 p.m. he spoke to someone on his cellular phone and said he was on a hill near a road and the lake was below him. He has never been heard from again.

Emadi was in good physical shape at the time of his disappearance, he knew how to forage for edible wild plants, and his loved ones say he had a "never quit" attitude. However, he is unfamiliar with the area and has no climbing experience; he had only ever gone on day hikes before. His case remains unsolved.
