They just had a report on local TV about the case. The reporter said that the suspect found out that Herr was a veteran who had just come into a large sum of money and concocted the plot to kill him and then frame him for Kibuishi's murder. He dismembered Herr's body to make indentification difficult, so the police would think he was still on the run. Herr was named as a suspect early on.

The reporter said a possible motive was that Wozniak needed money for his honeymoon. He was supposed to be married today at another park in Long Beach!

Ok, what's making the least amount of sense to me is why he would lure Julie to the apt. and kill her and then fake a sexual assault. The only thing I can think of is perhaps he tried to get more money from her or pin #'s to Sam's card(s) ... ???

It is alleged he killed Sam first, then used Sam's cell phone to text Julie and ask her to come and meet him. She thought Sam was texting her. When Julie got to Sam's apartment, Wozniak shot her and staged the scene to make it appear she was sexually assaulted and killed by Sam.

Wozniak dismembered Sam's body to make identification impossible, placed the torso in the attic of the theatre where he was killed, and placed his head, arm and his other hand in the Long Beach park.

I guess what I'm not understanding (not that any of it is understandable) is why lure her there if Sam was already dead. Why not just drain Sam`s bank accounts and leave Julie out of it ... unless to fabricate a reason for Sam`s absence hoping they would not then ever connect the body parts to him when found.

This guy is really looking like a complete whack job and the description on his ms is beginning to seem eerily accurate. He really did have everyone fooled.

LONG BEACH - Authorities on Friday continued their search in El Dorado Park for the head of a man killed in what police called a "gruesome and complicated murder plot for profit."

Daniel Patrick Wozniak, 26, of Costa Mesa was charged on Friday with two counts of murder in connection with the slaying May 21 of his neighbor, Samuel Eliezer Herr, 26, of Costa Mesa and on May 22 of Juri Julie Kibuishi, 23, of Irvine, said Capt. Ron Smith of the Costa Mesa Police Department.

On Friday, Costa Mesa police, with the help of Long Beach police, the FBI, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and cadaver dogs conducted a massive search for Herr's body parts in a section of park near the El Dorado Nature Center. Police found Herr's severed right hand under dense brush and located his arm in another section of forest about half a mile away, Smith said.

As of Friday evening, authorities were still searching for his head. Smith said police planned to continue their search in the park at sunrise today.

Kinda strange that a son would stop contact with a family if there were no problems:

The father said his son stopped accepting phone calls from him about six months ago. Daryl Wozniak did not know why and said there had been no falling out.

LadL, that struck me as well immediately. Then I figured well it could happen.

No way. Like so he just broke contact with you and you weren't going to his wedding and that wasn't questioned? Did the dad go through the brother and ask what the heck is wrong?

Money for his honeymoon? Poor Sam Herr. I pray for his family. The poor guy fights for his country and comes home and gets murdered in cold blood? Poor Julie. This whole thing is almost unbelievable. No, it is unbelievable.

Days after finding Samuel Herr's left arm and right hand, Costa Mesa detectives returned to a Long Beach park Saturday and found the Army veteran's severed head.

This is mostly an article about Sam Herr. Doesn't say much about the head except that it was found.

Wonder if Daniel W did something 6 months ago that caused him to not want to speak to his father?

For some reason, I find his horrible crimes more shocking than most that I read about here. Even after reading about it for several days, the shock is still fresh. It seems like it's just out of the clear blue, but there had to have been things going on that we don't know about.

In one of the links posted here (don't ask me which one), Sam's father said that Sam had access to $15,000 to $17,000, apparently in the account, or there would have been no need to mention it. IMO 'cause I don't know which link it was.

I noticed in the BB&B wedding registry, their wedding date was originally set for April 3. Put off for financial reasons?

About a week before the murders, Wozniak was arrested in Costa Mesa on suspicion of DUI. He was booked at the county jail and released one day later after posting bond, according to sheriff's records. He was behind on his rent and in the process of being evicted, police said.

The elder Herr said his son had access to $15,000-$17,000 in his account, and wonders whether Wozniak hatched a plan to kill him to obtain his ATM code. He said police told him Wozniak confessed and revealed the whereabouts of the body.

In tracking Herr early in the investigation, detectives learned that his debit card had been used to withdraw about $2,000 from ATM machines in Long Beach. They conducted surveillance and arrested a 17-year-old who told police Wozniak gave him the card and directed him to withdraw the money. Wozniak was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the crime. But after interviewing him, police said they concluded that Wozniak was actually responsible for the killings.
