Woman missing in Sierra National Forest

•has not been heard from since June 26th
•family was unaware of her plans to go camping
•On Sunday, family members were notified that Sandra's campsite was found in the Johnson Meadows area, between Beasore Rd. and Minarets Rd.

Sandra Johnsen Hughes has been missing for at least three days. LE stated her family said they have not had contact with her since a June 26 however.

MCSO is still trying to verify Hughes’ place of residency but law enforcement officials have been in touch with the woman’s family, who live in Pennsylvania.

Her campsite in the Johnson Meadows area between Beasore and Minarets roads was discovered Sunday by hikers.

Her belongings were scattered around the area in a manner described in initial reports as “disheveled and emptied carelessly.”

Hughes’ silver Saab was also found over the weekend parked along an area road near her campsite.

Hughes reportedly was camping by herself without informing family members of her plans.

The family of a missing woman is speaking out after she disappeared in the Sierra National Forest on June 26.

Hughes' camp, documents and personal information was found. Officials say the campsite was disheveled, which immediately raised red flags for her family.

Hughes had been spotted several times, but her trail has since gone cold.

“She's trained in outdoor survival; she's trained for it.”

The Madera County Sheriff's Office has since located Hughes' car on Sunday, which was found near the area of Chiquito Creek.

Macus says it appears that she had lost control and hit a tree.

She was reportedly seen by a passerby who told investigators that Hughes said she was OK before walking off.

Based on links I posted above:
•LE is still trying to determine what state she legally resides in; her family is in PA
•Not 100% on this, but I assume she vamps often based on her niece’s statement that SH is trained in outdoor survival, wouldn’t leave her campsite in a mess, etc.
•Not sure about a spouse/partner or children

I find this to be perplexing indeed!

Possessions of Sandra Johnsen Hughes — including personal documents — were reportedly found late last week strewn around a campsite along Mugler Creek, in the Sierra National Forest about 10 miles south of Yosemite.

On Sunday, Hughes’ car — a silver Saab 9-5 — was found off a dirt road near the Chiquito Pass trailhead, five miles north of the campsite, according to a Facebook post from her niece. It had apparently hit a tree.

Madera County sheriff’s deputies are searching an area near Beasore Road (Forest Road 5S07), which runs about 30 miles from Bass Lake into the High Sierra.

A Facebook post from the sheriff’s office on Tuesday said Hughes is believed to have been seen on foot by other hikers since her car was found.

“I received a call from the Madera County Sheriff’s Office stating that my aunt’s camp, documents and personal information were found in the Johnson Meadows region on Thursday,” said Ashley Macus.

“The campsite was quite disheveled,” Macus wrote, with “things thrown about all over almost as if her car and belongings had been emptied carelessly.”

On Mon her vehicle was located off Road 5S40.
“Her vehicle was involved in a collision with a tree,” said the sheriff’s office spokesperson. “We have not towed it from the area in case she returns to it.”
