CA CA - Sandra Hughes, 53, Sierra National Forest/Madera Co, 26 Jun 2020

I've also been wondering whether it was her. I'd hoped it was, because that would mean she was alive then and might be found soon. But apparently she hasn't been seen since.

I gather that there are some brush fires not far from that area. The Creek Fire, which has grown to 45,000 acres, is south of the area where Sandra's car was found and where she was allegedly seen. While I don't think there are evacuation orders yet for either of those places, nearby areas are being evacuated. Also, the air quality is bad.
Creek Fire Information - InciWeb the Incident Information System

(There are a couple of much smaller fires up in Yosemite to the northeast, but those seem to be less of an issue.)

If she's still up there, I hope the fire threat and poor air quality leads her to make her way to more populated areas where she can be seen and found.

Massive evacuation orders posted on the Madrera Sheriff page.

Bump. No updates?

Very strange. I'd think with all these fires she'd make an appearance of she was voluntarily missing.

I agree. If she is voluntarily missing & not in the middle of a mental crisis of any sort, thinking clearly, I’d assume she’d appear. She may have done so but just not contacted anyone to let them know. But then again, I’d want to believe she’d make sure to let someone know to keep them from worrying.
Sadly, I don’t think she’s simply voluntarily missing.. MOO

I wonder how simple it would for her to be able to reach out for help or to give info. Would she have to walk back to where her car is? Doubtful there are other hikers in the area now with the fires, but I suppose that's a slim possibility. Also her way out may be cut off. I keep hoping she'll reappear - the fires and the eventual approaching cold weather would be motivation enough, I'd think. JMO

If she is still in the same general area where she was spotted and her car is, her escape is not cut off. Also the trails are still open there according to what I can deduce from the Forest Service bulletins. The Creek fire is to her south and everything is open to her north up to Tioga rd. To the west would be the most likely exit routes and it’s open as well. I don't believe they towed her vehicle out yet, but I think I’m recalling it being inoperable anyway. She would have to hike out, which shouldn’t be a problem for her. If she’s uninjured.

I think any hiker of sound mind would be heading out right now though! 41 is still open near Fish Camp or Wawona last I heard.

I've heard no reports it was inoperable. But the battery would likely be dead by now

I, too, was unable to read it. I'd really like to know what was said.
Thx.

I don’t have access to the rest of the article either. I assumed it shared the info about when she was last sighted??

I get so frustrated when after a while, there’s only silence from LE and even family sometimes. I’m guessing they prob start investigating it as foul play and information stops being generated as much. But to some it feels like they forgot and no one should be forgotten.

I doubt that she was forgotten. I think LE found no crime. I feel like she’s the type to just take off on her own. I believe her family had mentioned that. I was that way for many years.

Yes, initially it was said that she likes to venture off on her own, and it was left at that. Then the fires came, and I believe that's when people were starting to worry...and rightfully so.

If she was able to make it out alive, then bless her. I hope she did.....jmo

Well I really do hope she is safe and well then. I guess I figured there would be some sort of news at least notifying the public she is no longer a missing persons. Maybe there is an I have overlooked it.

this makes me feel like someone accosted her at her site and stole her car.
Just my thoughts -- the wrecked car did it for me. I can't imagine someone who was planning to go camping to just leave her damaged vehicle and to camping anyway. That just doesn't make sense unless the car accident dealt a bad blow to her head to make her not think clearly. Seems to me, hitting a tree could cause a possibly very harmful head injury. That could also account for a messy campsite, although IMO foul play seems more likely.
