A missing California woman has not been seen since she left her house and told her stepfather that she was heading to the gym 10 days ago, according to her family members, who are desperately pleading for the public’s help in locating her.

Sara Celeste Otero, 28, was last seen around 8:40 a.m. Jan. 28 at the 1200 block of Alderney Court in Oceanside, roughly 40 miles north of San Diego, Oceanside police said.

Her phone has been off since 10 a.m. that day, family members told Fox News.

A major concern is that Otero may have harmed herself. Her siblings said she has a history of drug abuse but has been sober for two years.

“She’s grappling with a lot, she shared that she was feeling depressed … it’s affected [her and her boyfriend’s] relationship,” Chelsea told Fox.

Cops said she was last seen wearing a green military-style jacket and bronze-colored leggings.

She may be traveling in a gray Subaru Outback with California license plate 7GAB955, police said.

Anyone with information on Otero’s whereabouts is asked to call Oceanside police at (760) 435-4900.

She allegedly told her stepfather she planned on meeting a friend at a local gym for a workout session but never arrived. The friend was unaware of plans to meet.

That in itself is a red flag IMO…

She was last seen at 8:40am. Her cell phone was turned off at around 10:00 a.m. that same morning.

So that’s roughly 1 1/2 hrs. Did she turn it off or did someone else?

The family’s concerns grew when she failed to show up to work later that evening.

“She had never missed a day of work,” said Bear.

Otero worked at the Mission Ave Bar & Grill in Oceanside, according to CBS 8.

•This is confusing to me. Was her phone shut off around an hour and 1/2 after she was last seen? Or Did her brother communicate with her that day but got worried after she stopped responding to him (and 4 hrs passed)? Or Did they begin worrying & realized she was missing that evening after she didn’t make it to work?
Just trying to wrap my head around circumstances, timeline, ….

Agreed. This statement is troubling. Logic suggests Sara may have wanted to do something, or go somewhere, but didn't want her family to know for some reason, resulting in the statement above.

At this point we don't know what she had in mind when last seen. It's possible this statement is directly linked to her disappearance but with available facts we can't be certain.

Poor young lady to feel like there was no other choice, I pray for the family during their tragic loss. I know all to well sadly as a gold star parent of a 21 year old in heaven how tragic a suicide can be especialy on the parents. I myself struggle through grief and broken heartedness every single day from my loss, and there are days I feel like joining my son in heaven. God please give her family strength to get through these rough times ahead. RIP Sara
