GUILTY CA - Shaun, 6, & Delylah Tara, 3, dead, 9 yr old tortured, Redding, 27 Nov 2015

Where was TH's 14-year-old during this week? And were they moving to Plumas County or just visiting? The apt in Salinas looks very small, doesn't even look like a 2-bedroom apt, and the Quincy apt also looked small. And why were investigators going into the Salinas apt with hazmat suits.

^ "investigators going into the Salinas apt with hazmat suits."

Pure speculation on my part ---
??? LE's suspicion that meth or other dangerous drugs were being manuf'ed. in apt???
??? LE had tips about serious cleaning/hygiene/pet prob's in apt???
No basis, just two possibilities among many.

Sorry if already covered.

From the link above and also stated in many other articles.
How does a 17yr old, non-relative get "custody" of two small children with his 39yr old girlfriend? Is that legal?

Per SR^ from articles, "Huntsman and Curiel, who had custody of Shaun and Delyla, are suspects in their murder."

I doubt Curiel was named in any custody orders (could be wrong).

Great job sleuthing. How sad for Salinas.

Here's a map of gangs in Salinas. The family lives on Fremont Street which is smack dab in the middle of the Fremont Street Gang. There are about 3,000 gang members in Salinas. Most people living there will probably never see them but not when your street is full of them. I think the Fremont Street gang may be part of the local Norteno street gang.

Salinas, a city of 150,000, has long battled gang violence and frequently has one of the state’s highest gang-related homicide rates. Just 30 miles north of two major prisons, the main rivalry in town is between the Nortenos and Surenos, gangs that once were largely confined to Northern and Southern California, respectively, but now are doing battle in much of the state.

I'd chalk this custody comment up to sloppy reporting, personally. It happens in every case we follow. JMO

I've been reading here but have not been able to find words to post. My heart breaks for these sweet children that were left with these monsters! I'm praying for the 9 year old. I don't know what kind of life she will have, but I'm hoping by some miracle, she will be placed in a loving home and can have a wonderful future.

Her older half sister Precious is hoping to bring her home.

Aponte said she’s now determined to bring Frankie home.

“She’s going to be safe and she’s going to come home and not one person is ever going to touch her again,” she said.

Child welfare workers repeatedly visited the Salinas home of a woman now under investigation in the deaths of two children to check on complaints of neglect, an official said.

The children living in the apartment were not removed from Huntsman’s care because there was no evidence they were at risk, Elliot Robinson, head of the Monterey County Department of Social Services, told The Associated Press.

There were four complaints between September 2014 and August about general neglect, a category that includes poor supervision, improper feeding, lice infestation and dirty household conditions, Robinson said, adding that none of the complaints alleged physical abuse.

“General neglect calls rarely will result in the removal of the child,” he said. “More often than not it’s about poverty.”

Investigators questioned Huntsman about the missing children, but she was not cooperative. They also questioned Curiel, who was being held at the Butte County Juvenile Detention Center.
That's when Curiel reportedly pointed authorities toward the Redding storage unit...

Police found the two young bodies stuffed into plastic tote containers. The children's identities and the cause of their deaths haven't been reported.

Yep!!! I am no longer sitting by doing nothing. I have my first training class to be a foster parent next month. I can't just say oh this is horrible, wish I could do something. I'm doing it. I can't save the world, but I can move a tiny little piece of it. I believe there are many more people like me in the foster system than the bad ones.
Good for you, BrownRice! Best wishes to you in your foster care journey.

Oh no. :(

I am confused. Are the children found in the storage unit Delylah and Shaun, or two MORE children?

The children found in the storage unit are assumed to be Delylah and Shaun.

I can't understand why Tami got custody of the children, if there was a closer relative wanting custody.

I do believe the half sister is only 17.

Police in the Northern California city of Redding, where the bodies of a boy and a girl were found inside a storage unit, say the children died somewhere else and that police in Salinas, where the children once lived, will lead the investigation.

Redding police said late Wednesday that detectives determined during the investigation the children's death occurred outside Shasta County. The police gave no other details.

storage unit was rented 12-4-15. I think this determination that the children did not die there is a good indication that the decomp level and state of remains showed they were already deceased when that locker was rented. This is in line with the article yesterday that stated the children died around Thanksgiving.

I know she means well, but I think the psychological and physical trauma this young one has been through will require someone older than 17, but I do hope she can be a stable presence in her life.

GB those little ones that were so abused they died (murdered, actually)! May they rest in Heavenly Peace. Their battle to be loved and treated well is over! At least they will suffer no more.

Prayers for the 9 year old girl who had to have surgery from the abuse. I hope her physical injuries heal. Her emotional injuries never will, IMO.
