You still need a secure place to keep her so she doesn't escape. And for what purpose? Trafficking doesn't make sense to me at all. It's usually young females that get trafficked, not married women in their thirties. And if the goal was to traffic her, why did they release her? This is a very strange case and I can't understand what the motive was.

I agree. She was not trafficked. That would make no sense. Other likely possibilities.

1. Gang Initiation.
2. Hate Crime.
3. Kidnapping for sexual assault and torture.

My hink-o-meter is buzzing again-no photos of crime scene #2 where SP was tossed from the car? Where I live, scanner bugs would be all over that, showing up at the scene after LE & posting pics on social media w/crime scene tape right away. Honestly, I'm reallly surprised that more people have not come forward for their 15 minutes, saying they saw SP on the side of the road but we're afraid to stop. People love to be part of events like this-like posting first about tragedies or inserting themselves into situations where they can get themselves some coverage. Except CG and LJ-they've got that covered.

I think that may just be badly written. I'm sure he said something about her having dark yellow bruising over her nose but I can't find the quote so maybe it was on video. I can only find quotes of him saying yellow and black bruising.

BBM Somehow I missed that quote. That is quite an interesting comment.

I also think a ransom may have been paid. But I am struggling to figure out how this was arranged if SP was dropped off by the side of the road.

Yes, especially with this description from KP where if such event occurred would put her at serious risk of injury or death:
"She was thrown from a vehicle with a chain around her waist, attached to her wrists and a bag over her head."

Interrupting this thread for the following :

MIDDLE AGE

I thought it was 35.
Then I Googled it and saw it's 45-65 (yes, I am "middle aged")

I saw another article that asked, what is middle aged in 2015?

Get this!!!
Remember the Huffington post debacle?
Well, they say middle age is 60! [emoji6]
http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/7079006

I think if someone is in their 60's or even young 20's they think middle age is in the 30's. (35 to be exact) as sometime ago life expectancy was in the 70's.

Unless I missed it, middle aged is half the age before the end of life expectancy.

Are we expected to live to 120 now?

You may now return to you regularly scheduled sleuthing discussion. [emoji368]

Great! I'm not middle aged anymore [emoji57]

I am counting at least 4 crime scenes in this case.

1 point of abduction - investigated by LE at the time reported missing
2 the vehicle she was transported in - not yet investigated as it remains unidentified/unkown.
3 the place she was held for three weeks - not investgated - unidentified/unknown and not even known if more than one location - sheriff will not elaborate on that info
4 point of release - investigated at the time she was revocered on the side of the road.

I know KP made a point to thank the FBI in his written statement. Unclear to me if they are involved at this point in time

Right, and ty... I was thinking the two we know of. Any idea if local police where she was found are assisting in investigation?

Just sort of baffling to me that there is not a spokesperson with PR experience addressing the media in such a high profile case.

IF a cash transaction did happen for SP's release (it's hard to call it a ransom, since no ransom demand was ever made), I seriously doubt that the person who received it was the same person(s) who had physical control over SP. Somehow I get a creepy vibe the people who actually took her were for hire by whoever actually planned this.

But I'm not convinced the donor actually existed in the first place, or that there was any money there in the first place. That part is just way too stinking convenient. Now, if Mr. A. Donor steps up and says to the MSM "yes, I exist and yes I contacted CG, set up a website, supplied a phone number to a burner phone, created a gmail address, and this is all real" well then that will be that.

How many drivers are out at 4:30AM? Plus it was dark out. We also don't know how long SP was actually by the side of the road. She may have been at that spot for a very short period of time and had been walking for a while.

Random things -
(All just my own rambling opinions.)
Driving 2 1/2 hrs non-stop does NOT mean landing 2 1/2 hrs away from the starting point. Not so difficult to drive 10 hrs non-stop + land 1 block away from the starting point. jmo it does not tell us how far away SP was held or taken on day 1. Wouldn't surprise me to learn she never left Redding until the morning of her release.

I see no difficulty in 1 person driving + releasing SP. I drive with 1 hand often, sometimes only a thumb or knee as I reach for something. Easy enough to pop the door handle, cut restraint with a flick of the wrist + shove or simply tell her to go. Let's be real, SP weighed 87 lbs + was not in the best physical condition. Think she's going to fight being cut loose?! In chains, battered, emaciated, in the pitch black, with something over her head?!

Many dismiss the cult comments made because SP was not in a cult, following one or trying to be free of one. That doesn't change the cult's mentality or methods one iota. They might use the same tactics in situations other than converting members. It tells me nothing of SP. It tells me these experts believe the perp/s may identify with a cult, or at the least are using tactics that resemble such.

Ransom - CG made it clear from the get go, this would be done outside of LE involvement, he would not be sharing information with LE, did not care about justice, the only goal was to bring SP home alive. SP is home alive. LE was not involved in her return until motorists started dialing 911 + the perp/s long gone in the dark. IF the ransom was paid, we would NOT know that. That was the whole point of the way CG went about things, according to himself. I'd theorize this could explain why it may have been one perp releasing her. The other may have been picking up the ransom money simultaneously or something else pre-arranged in regards to same. In other words - carrying out some plan, that would make the swap, without one party or the other at risk for not receiving their agreed upon part of the exchange.

THIS is what I keep getting stuck on -
IF the ransom were NOT paid - what reason would the perp/s have to release SP alive + talking?
Only answers I can come up with are: ransom was paid.
Or, her whole ordeal including return in the condition she was in, was to send a severe message to someone/s close to her.
Or the perp/s felt there was zero risk of SP giving any useful info. (Hard to hang my hat on this one. jmo - they'd be slightly nervous at best + paranoid of what she might have observed unbeknownst to them. That would take a SUPER HUGE ego.)
Or ______?? Help me out here.

Sorry for the amount of wordage. Headed back down this rabbit hole, whiskey in hand. :book:

If the ransom was paid that would mean a lot was going on behind the scene and could account for KP telling his children that SP would be home for Thanksgiving. Does anyone recall when he said this?

They may have removed the reward because it was claimed/delivered.

You could for instance drive someone around in circles and then each time put them in a different storage container where they think they're in a new place at a different location when in reality they haven't gone anywhere.

Requiring several storage containers in one spot? I wonder who would have a setup like that ...

Actually, since SP was on the move it would be really challenging to know exactly where she was dropped off. She was desperate for help and looking for someone to assist, so can we be sure where she actually was dropped off? All they are sure of is where she was picked up that morning.

You take a long ziptie (or multiple smaller ties connected), loop it through the chain and the front bottom seat frame of the SUV. JMO

... thanks, but KP said she was chained with metal...

OTOH: my, my, you are crafty! O.O
note to self: do not upset Ranch.

I have one pic of the area she was left at with a crime scene marker, on the case map. There are videos about too from reporters at the scene. Actually forgive me, it is a SS from one of the videos of the scene. There are other photos but I only add if I can verify the spot so I didn't. one was a photo of searchers and it was the DM, and I spent hours driving around trying to locate it, in the end I think it was a reporting error and it was a photo of earlier searches where she was abducted from not where she was located.

This is the SS from the map showing the crime scene marker where she was located

I'm pondering the fact that SP is a lefty, but I might be wrong.

RSBM &BBM
I assume left handed is not a reference to political affiliations, but handedness?

I have wondered the same about KP. Never thought about SP.
I am a lefty. I won't even attempt to explain to "righties" how information has to be processed differently, or that we have trouble functioning in a right handed world.

Put it this way, as a child playing cards, my cards were always upside down. *pic on LEFT

I had to retrain my brain to hold them correctly. *pic on RIGHT That applies to pretty much everything in life...
Not trying to derail the thread, but it's a valid question IMO.

Maybe there is a thread for
lefties? If not someone could start one and I'd chime in.

Why no sketch yet....even a description of what they covered their faces with....like someone else said...a ring, clothing, height, weight. Not only to alert anyone who might encounter them, but to alert someone that may know the women. Why even offer a reward for information without anything to go on?

A suv driving for 2.5 hours would need gas. So they probably gassed up in Redding before taking her. So hopefully they check cameras at gas stations.

On 11/30/16 sheriff gave a presser that is transcribed here http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/crime/article118083978.html

I’d like to thank the following agencies for their continued assistance throughout this investigation: The Shasta County Probation Department, the Shasta County District Attorney’s office, The Redding Police Department, The California Highway Patrol, Yolo County Sheriff’s Office, The California Department of Justice, The Federal Bureau of Investigation, AMR ambulance and the Shasta County Search and Rescue team.

ETA also describes evidence collection at the release location.
