KP has some type of criminal justice related associates degree. When discussed, most thought that he took photos of the phone because he was aware that it might help. Basically, he thinks like LE.
Hmmmm..did he then pick the phone up or leave it lying there? If thinking like LE and if he was at that time worried about SP's whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, I would not have touched it thinking I might mess up some fingerprints unrelated to SP's.

I am still perplexed about taking a photo of the phone. I would have thought most people's first instinct would be to reach for it and pick up, rather than to photograph it.

He must have thought the second he saw it that it was a clue to a crime. He must have thought abduction the second he saw the phone, and been thinking in terms of preserving evidence. Although if he was that sure, idk why he didn't call call LE to come and see the phone for themselves, rather than just taking pictures then picking it up and risk destroying forensic evidence.

Maybe KP likes crime shows and for whatever reason, taking a pic of her phone before picking it up was the first thing that popped into his thoughts? Just a guess.

If I were looking for my hubby and I'd tracked his phone to the mailboxes (we have the same type in our neighborhood) and I found his phone laying in the grass and him nowhere to be seen, that would certainly worry me but I suspect I'd probably just pick it up.

Is it possible to point out where this has been discussed?
I know there are so many threads , so don't worry if you can't
Never heard anything about KP thinking like LE before

I remember discussing it - if I recall correctly it was from his Linked In profile....

I have always thought Keith took a picture of the phone to document position before he picked it up (as I would have) to see if there wasn't some type of message on the phone. I would be hard put to leave it sitting there AND wait for LE who then nay even tell me not to touch it. Jmo, moo.

Why would it not be real i guess is what has me curious?

He says in the 20/20 interview why he snapped the pictures. I think he said to show LE how serious this was-about how he found her phone.

  • #467
Bingo!

Pick it up!

KP has been cleared so I don't know why this matters. He didn't plant her phone, or organize an abduction.

She was snatched from a rural area. Her alleged abductors must have known she would be there, and waited until she was vulnerable. This implies premeditation. Not, "Hey, look a young, blonde American, let's snatch her!" Premeditation implies a bit of planning, and foreknowledge of the victim. They would know where she lives, see her husband, kids, etc.

It's highly unlikely this was a case of mistaken identity, and it's highly unlikely she was the intended victim of sex trafficking. I believe LE is skeptical of this, and only the PI hired by SP's family has said it's a possibility.

What you say is true. There are factors inconsist with trafficking.
I was responding to a post that said she was not in the targeted age range.

There are factors, however, consistent with trafficking.
Per an FBI bulletin

https://leb.fbi.gov/2011/march/human-sex-trafficking

Generally, the traffickers are very organized. Many have a hierarchy system similar to that of other criminal organizations. Traffickers who have more than one victim often have a “bottom,” who sits atop the hierarchy of prostitutes. The bottom, a victim herself, has been with the trafficker the longest and has earned his trust. Bottoms collect the money from the other girls, discipline them, seduce unwitting youths into trafficking, and handle the day-to-day business for the trafficker.

Traffickers represent every social, ethnic, and racial group. Various organizational types exist in trafficking. Some perpetrators are involved with local street and motorcycle gangs, others are members of larger nationwide gangs and criminal organizations, and some have no affiliation with any one group or organization. Traffickers are not only men—women run many established rings.

Physical Indicators

Injuries from beatings or weapons
Signs of torture (e.g., cigarette burns)
Brands or scarring, indicating ownership
Signs of malnourishment

CONCLUSION

This form of cruel modern-day slavery occurs more often than many people might think. And, it is not just an international or a national problem—it also is a local one. It is big business, and it involves a lot of perpetrators and victims.

Agencies at all levels must remain alert to this issue and address it vigilantly. Even local officers must understand the problem and know how to recognize it in their jurisdictions. Coordinated and aggressive efforts from all law enforcement organizations can put an end to these perpetrators’ operations and free the victims.

I'm not certain this is what happened to Sherri Papini. But until we know more details I don't think it can be ruled out.

Lots of interesting CG details here, from the Ventura County Star:

http://www.vcstar.com/story/news/lo...n-local-hostage-negotiators-methods/95044410/

I am having a hard time believing that CG was not involved in this saga before 11/14, which the article asserts (you have to read the four paragraphs starting with “The donor purchased the website …”).

Thanks for this. My "hinky meter" has been pegging in the red since reading the Daily Beast article about CG the other day.

This new article, I haven't finished yet but was struck by the comment that the donor himself bought the Sherri Papini website domain.

Isn't it pretty simple to find out who registered a domain? One of you sleuthers want to take a crack at it?

We all think/react differently in situations
Me? If I found my spouse's phone on the ground, I would find it unusual, but my mind wouldn't go directly to a crime
I certainly wouldn't take a photo

Wow, thanks for the link.

CG's claim that he had to be practically forced to get involved is laughable, knowing what we know about him. Interesting he is trying to distance himself from his early involvement in this case, make it seem as he was a reluctant participant. Curious and curiouser...

I also find it very interesting he keeps trying to push his "new model" for handling kidnappings, and I found the FBI expert's explanation of the differences between kidnappings in the US and in developing countries very illuminating. It's almost as if CG thought he could use the developing world model effectively in the US, and saw value in being the guy to bring this model here. Look at how he keeps bragging about that.

While the FBI expert is clear it can't work here, and finds CG to be something of an opportunist and a joke.

Yeah
been kind of been thinking about that myself
Not sure it has been addressed by LE

I'm guessing that he photo'd it to show its placement and also the time on his photo reflects what time he found it. LE is not certain that it wasn't deliberately "placed" there, though...but did not say why they think that. JMO Maybe just because it seemed to be NEATLY placed.

Does anyone know approximately how long SP was under medical supervision after being found alive? Less/more than 24 hours?

In contrast to the DB article, this author of this one actually contacts CG and LJ and lets them present their side of the story. It certainly looks like CG inflated his credentials. Otherwise, there's nothing to suggest he "inserted himself" into the case.

I don't think I could have stopped myself from picking it up. I probably would have grabbed it, scrolled through texts and calls, and then called LE-while screaming at the top of my lungs, and running around in circles searching for her. I might have assumed that she fell, or, was hurt and nearby. But I've never been trained in LE.

This admission stands out:
Gamble acknowledges that despite a claim he made in a tweet, Project TAKEN is “just a name” and does not have official status as a 501(c)(3) charity.

Gamble said while he applied the status, he never completed the application process. While he receives donations through Redding's Bethel Church, that money does not go to the organization itself, but to Gamble and his wife, he confirmed.

The tweet where he announced this is still live
, and he hasn't made any sort of retraction on the Facebook page.

If he does watch crime shows he probably thought better of it, and didn't want to disturb any prints that may have been on the phone. He knew something was terribly wrong as soon as he saw how it was placed there IMO. He probably panicked and took pictures- not really thinking clearly.

The sheriff, IIRC, thought it was placed there because it was face up and the earbuds were wound loosely around it. I'm sorry, but if the phone was tossed to the ground, it has a 50/50 chance of landing face up. Also, the cord, if it was already wound loosely around the phone in Sherri's hand, would not necessarily have come unwound when it hit the ground.

I still think this was a for hire kidnapping.. I think someone hired two females (now maybe they work in trafficking, maybe their gangbangers, maybe both), but I think they were hired to rough her up. To terrorize her, and to scare the bejesus out of her. I just don't think SHE herself is the ultimate target. I think it is someone or multiple someone's in her family or life. I think when the person or persons behind the abductions was satisfied that the message was sent, or got what he/she wanted, I think SP was released as planned. I don't know if money changed hands. I don't know if some kind of agreement was reached. I just feel very much like what it right in front of us: victim SP, perps Two Latina women, are just the surface scenery. I hate anything to nr complicated or conspirital sounding, but I really think this whole damned thing was to hurt her for a reason.

Sorry for the repeated run on theory. I'm supposed to be decorating my tree before work and this case has just jammed up my noodle.

Remember that Keith found it after his suspicions had already been aroused that Sherri had met with foul play (i.e., empty home, children not picked up, no response from Sherri to phone calls and text messages, her car still in the driveway, etc.). It wasn't like he came home and, before walking in the house, found her phone sitting in the lawn.
