I always wondered if he just picked the Thanksgiving date to give the kids some hope. You know how you sometimes pick future date out of the blue, just to give something some time to settle and hoping something good would happen in the future on or before that date. JMO. Katt

Or it had happened before and he knew if he gave a specific date using the kids as bait, she might come home.

I feel it was a personal “prank” within her marriage for attention and it went larger than she expected. Suddenly she didn’t know how to resolve it with a smattering of self-respect, thus the 2 Hispanic females were born. She didn’t want to be away from her kids and family for the holidays.

Her contact with some unnamed man prior to her disappearance may factor into this.

What did she have to gain from the hoax though?

For some people, especially those who might be mentally unstable-

1. Getting sympathy from those around her for what she went through (sort of like Munchausen people).
2. Getting back at her husband for something and punishing him.
3. Reward money.
4. Coming up with a story to hide an affair.
5. Something that was part of an elaborate cuckolding fantasy that went wrong.

Who knows? Could be a combo.

If she wanted attention- she could have easily been on every talk show, had a tv movie of the week, done a book.
No appearances, no public pleas from family to find her kidnappers, no one is saying anything.
She and her family appear to be recluses, afraid to say or do anything - fear of the kidnappers? Or family just wanting the scrutiny to go away and hope the public forgets?
JMO

Maybe once it became bigger and clearly improbable to the majority of the general public, she decided she better keep quiet. She might have had some legal advice long the way as well. Anything she says on the news could be used against her.

But yeah, one would think that a person unstable enough to pull something like this for attention would not be able to stop talking.

I read an article last night that said they moved because it was too hard to be there or something to the effect. I dont have a link, but I saw 2 or 3 articles in the past couple of years.

I understand why people are skeptical, but i have never been sold on it being a hoax. 87 pounds is quite small from where she was a month before in the Halloween photos. But a couple of things made it feel real to me. 1. No one puts themselves out to wave down cars with no pants and restraints. And 2, the video of her running towards help in the dark seemed very real. She wasn't sauntering around. She looked like she was running with purpose and fear.

Abigail Hernandez was returned home much more gently, wearing the same clothes she left in and returned to her house and what she went through was nothing short of a nightmare. If this girl was doing it for attention, why has she remained completely silent. I was expecting stories and interviews, based on the skepticism. But it never happened. I cannot even imagine how hard this would be if it was real and she has been treated so badly. Until the police say they don't believe it or some evidence comes out, I would rather be cautious and not accuse a victim of lying. I am well aware of the possibility, but at this point, it doesn't feel right, considering she hasn't had attention seeking behavior that was speculated that she wanted. I will say the same thing I said about Abby--- the police not releasing details made the victim look like a liar. The police don't do them any favors by being all quiet and cryptic.

Do we know she was actually 87 pounds or is this more hyperbole from her husband? Because he also said they cut off all her hair and she had a cute bob a couple weeks later.

In any event, I remember a poster stating they had perused her Pinterest back when it was still up and something to the effect of, as a result, they had the sense that SP had an eating disorder and was so into appearance that she seemed unstable or something. That was the inference I got. The poster felt sorry for her.

This was before SP was miraculously released alive.

I was a bit offended by that because I felt the insinuation was that she had possibly made this up. But SP had not yet been found and despite the strange facts and her husband’s somewhat bizarre interview, I felt she could have been abducted and killed and that making inferences and insinuations about a victim was wrong.

But I think I was the one who was wrong and that poster had a keen eye and noticed some interesting things that could explain what happened. And also, her weight.

I voiced my feelings about being offended for the victim and as a result, the poster didn’t bring it up again. I wish I hadn’t been so closed minded at the time. That person had interesting insights.

I'm pretty sure all of the physical details came from the husband. The info released by LE was IIRC very general.

ETA. If she were 87 pounds after supposedly being starved, I would think she would have been kept in the hospital overnight.

Broken nose
Multiple bruises
Cut on foot
Mysterious brand
Starved and only 87 lbs
At least 24 hours observation period?

It seems like it would practically be mandatory!

Ita.
Not even 24 hours.
Basically observed and released as fine and healthy.
Maybe because the hospital observed none of these things ?
We have only the husband's word for all of her horrific 'injuries'.
Imo.

Agreed.
Also, didn't the hospital have some questions about where she was and what exactly happened ?

Considering their haul from the crowd funding, maybe they just took the money and ran.

But it feels too simplistic.
There are other ways of making quick cash.

Query and speculation : Was there ever any instances of odd or unpredictable behavior from Sherri in the past ?
In high school ?
Or even before ?
Mental issues are a real thing and very sad.

Most of the time those people need sympathetic and professional help; and more counseling than you'd get from a concerned friend-- just saying.
Some just want attention that they're not getting at home.

Or was it just needing to be with the unnamed friend ?
Was it only that and nothing else ?

Hubby was very certain she'd be home by the holiday.

Her family had a history of making 9-1-1 calls about SP.

911 call logs shed light on 'Super Mom' Sherri Papini's past

A call log from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office dated Dec. 17, 2003, indicates that Papini's mother, Loretta Graeff, alleged that her then-21-year-old daughter had been harming herself and blaming it on her.

On Oct. 1, 2000, Papini's sister, Sheila Graeff, alleged that Sherri may have kicked in her back door but was unsure if anyone actually got into the house because nothing was missing.

Then later that day, Papini's father, Richard Graeff, alleged that Papini vandalized their home in Shasta Lake, California.

Three years later, On October 3, 2003, Richard Graeff also alleged to police that an unauthorized withdrawal was made from his bank account and that he suspected Papini, who was living with them at the time.

There's obviously something going on with this woman from a mental health standpoint, and there's no shame in that. The shame is in continuing a ruse of abduction. How hard would it be to just make a statement that she disappeared willingly and is now getting the help she needs for her mental health issues. Of course all of us would still want details deep down, but at least the matter could be put to rest.

If SP admits to lying about being kidnapped she could face charges for lying to the FBI. It's not in her best interest to confess.

Good point.

Could a good lawyer get her off?

Where I live, a guy was just arrested for lying to the police about being rear-ended, then pulling over, and while trying to exchange insurance information, the guys in the other car robbed him of the money he'd just won at the casino and took off. Turns out it was all a lie. The guy HAD won that money at the casino. But then he went and lost all of it right after he won it. So, you have to wonder why he created that elaborate robbery ruse? Wife/girlfriend at home is the most logical explanation to me.

Folks go to strange lengths to keep misdeeds from their spouses.

Yup! I know a young woman who in an attempt to keep her boyfriend, made up the most incredible backstory for her life full of trauma and drama. She didn't think she could keep him any other way; it was all to keep him focused on her and worried about her. It all started to unravel when, in concern, he got her to make a police report and go to counselling; lies on that level can't be sustained when outside parties get involved.

My take has been that she was in the habit of occasionally taking off for a couple of days to spend time with <ahem> someone other than her husband. The Michigan Man and the new dude from SOCAL line up with this, as does KP immediately using the "find my phone" app, rather than calling her, texting her, calling friends and family, etc.

KP was fed up, reported her missing, and blew up the news. The whole "super mom," "our girl," and "signature hair" was OTT and ridiculous, and perhaps could be read as snide or sarcastic.

And ultimately, he knew she wouldn't miss Thanksgiving with her family.

She was embarrassed and humiliated, did (or had done) just enough damage to herself to somewhat support a kidnapping story, but not so much as to have to be kept in the hospital for any length of time. And refused a rape kit.

And now she has learned her lesson, and stays home with Keith, happily ever after.

I think the $50k go gimme money was an unexpected plus.
I find your post extremely hard to disagree with. :D

IMO she liked her image as super mom and didn't want everyone to know where she was, what she was doing, and who she was doing it with.
Where did this “super mom” originate?
And what made her a “super mom”?
Children and a fulfilling yet demanding job?
President of the PTA?
Volunteer/Advocate of the year award?
