I wish they’d get the divorce settled. I’d imagine Keith just wants to be done.
I'm guessing that she's the one dragging it out.

I’ll never not like seeing the title of this thread with “Guilty” next to her name.

I am one who was convinced it was fake from Day 1. The phone with the ear buds (and strands of her “signature long blonde hair”) wrapped neatly around it was such an obvious plant. No kidnapper is going to let you neatly leave your phone behind!

Yeah, I was here at WS when she was falsely accusing the Hispanic women of having kidnapped her. It was awful.

The media needs to stop talking about Sherri Papini, she enjoys attention - even the negative. Now she'll play the victim role, using it to her advantage ...
Agree

Sherri Papini's ex-mother-in-law wants loan to be paid back

Kathleen Papini said she agreed to loan her former daughter-in-law (Keith and Sherri Papini are divorced) the $50,000 before she pleaded guilty to the charges.

As part of the lawsuit, Kathleen Papini included in her court filing copies of billing statements on the loan she sent to Sherri Papini, who now apparently lives in Shingletown.

Another headline guaranteed to keep Sherri in the headlines for a while longer- unfortunately

Seriously. She probably doesn't have any money anyways. I would just blow it off, so I didn't have to engage with her.

Reportedly (see post #907), the loan by the former MIL dates back to March 2022 for legal fees:

Sherri Papini was arrested in March 2022 and charged in federal court with mail fraud and making false statements to the FBI. That same month, Kathleen Papini agreed to loan her $50,000 to help pay for her criminal defense attorney, William Portanova of Sacramento.

Kathleen Papini's lawsuit was filed Sept 2024 and the trial date is Aug 2025. IMO, KP probably delayed suing SP waiting on the divorce, and hopes to get a judgement against SP that will follow her when she eventually cashes in. JMO

"She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went." from song.*
Thinking about the TIMING here & USE of loan $.

Sept. 2024.** Kathleen P filed BREACH OF CONTRACT suit against SP claiming:
- March 2022, KP lent SP, her then-dau in law "$ 50,000 to help pay for her criminal defense attorney." (<---*Quoting MSM** not petition)
- Loan was made before KP learned kidnapping story was false.
- Oct. 2022, last payment made.
- Damages of $ 50,473. (Amt of loan, less paymts, plus accrued interest & late fees. See MSM** for actual numbers)

Q 1. IF ~ first week of March 2022, SP engaged law firm, say a few days before or after her arrest, would $ 50,000 be a TYPICAL RETAINER or unusually high for rep'ing her on the 34 counts of mail fraud*** & one count of making false stmts to FBI agents in original charges?***

Q 2. Did SP actually use the full $50,000 loan to pay retainer?

Q 3. Wondering how much of retainer would have been BILLED by -
Ap. 18, 2022..... Plea agreement, KP pleaded guilty to 2 crim counts.
Seems like a relatively quick plea agreement. Did it nail down both sentence & restitution amt?

Q 4. And how much MORE would have been billed by -
Sept. 19, 2022... when SP was sentenced.
18 mo. prison, then 36 mo. of supervised release, & $309,902 in restitution.***

Q 4. Any FURTHER legal services that would be provided after sentencing?

Q 5. After the last legal services were provided, was any of the retainer still remaining to return to SP?
W Sept 2022 sentencing & w Kathleen P's petition stating last loan payment was made in Oct. 2022, seems possible that law firm returned some $ from retainer about that time, which SP used as a loan payment. Or SP may have used for something else. IDK.

Q 6. Or at some point had law firm required ADDITIONAL $?

Thinking ex-MiL may feel once bitten, twice shy.
jmo

“Despite the United States’ demand for payment, made more than 30 days before the date of this Application, Debtor has failed to satisfy the debt,” the motion stated.

Papini’s Sacramento-based attorney, William J. Portanova, emailed Oxygen.com on behalf of his client.

“Sherri Papini is well aware of her financial obligations to the Court and has been open with the Court and Government as to her financial condition,” Portanova stated. “The restitution payments will continue as always, just as she promised the Court.”

A breakdown of the total debt included a judgment amount of $309,902.22 for restitution after Papini pleaded guilty in April 2022 to one count of mail fraud and one count of making false statements to authorities for staging her own 2016 kidnapping — a story that garnered widespread media attention and was the basis for the Oxygen special, Sherri Papini: Lies, Lies, and More Lies.

ETA: Seems to me it's easy for defense attorney Portanova to say SP is aware of her financial obligations (while not paying them) because he was already paid (via borrowed monies from KP) while she's failed to make restitution toward the debt/judgement by State of CA for monies illegally received when she conned them in her hoax. IMO, SP should have been kept in prison on work release until her entire debt repaid!
